History
Early Career
Shostokovitch was reputed to be a large man with a hearty laugh, and a quick if not always appreciated sense of humor, paired with intense loyalty to those close to him. He was also a highly intelligent and intuitive officer, whose tactical sense allowed him to locate the weak spots of his enemies.
As commander of Beta regiment he was an extremely popular leader, having rose through the ranks of Beta Regiment's MechWarriors, taking over from its initial commander Jeremy Ellman on his retirement in 3016. Shostokovitch sometimes posed as Jaime Wolf for visitors, delighting in embarrassing those caught unaware by his gruff, authoritarian affectations.[1]
Individuals who fell for this joke included Baron Augustus Davis, the Baron of Batan on Quentin IV as of 3023, a Federated Suns noble asked by Colonel Wolf to declare his holdings a combat free-zone during an objective raid for the Draconis Combine.[2]
While on Quentin IV Shostokovitch also acted as a liaison for the Dragoons with Minobu Tetsuhara, who was another person who found "Shos" humor off-putting.[3]
Misery
Shostokovitch participated in the Battle of Misery, where his assault 'Mech was badly damaged. After this battle, his injured Lancemate Captain Noah Grimm convinced him to take over his smaller 'Mech, so that he could continue fighting even as Grimm retired from service.[4]
Crossing
During the Battle of Crossing, Shostokovitch was killed, his new smaller 'Mech falling when other Dragoons nearby were still fighting.[4] Captain John Umaio attempted to save Shostokovitch's life, but despite a valiant attempt, Shostokovitch had little hope and Umaio was lucky to escape with his own life.[4]
BattleMech
Shostokovitch was known to initially pilot a BattleMaster BattleMech. After this was damaged on Misery, Shostokovitch switched to a smaller Dervish, until his death on Crossing.[1]
Notes
Andrei Shostokovitch name is sometimes misspelled as "Andrei Shostokovich".[5][6]
