Captain John Umaio was an officer in Beta Regiment of Wolf's Dragoons as of 3028.[1]

History[edit]
Umaio was reputed to be a loyal, experienced officer, though his love life led to suspicions he may have compromised the security of his unit.[1]
Draconis Combine Contract[edit]
While the Dragoons were under contract to the Draconis Combine Captain Umaio, then the commander of Umaio's Company ("The Reapers") of Able Battalion, entered into an intimate relationship with a Combine noblewomen known as Lady Andreana Sokumo.
Many of his troops harbored doubts about security leaks that occurred during the last months of their contract with House Kurita, blaming Captain Umaio's relationship, however he was cleared of wrongdoing by a regimental board of inquiry. Umaio nevertheless ended his relationship and sought to resign his command, but was refused by Major Alicia Fancher, who wanted his experienced leadership for the upcoming Battle of Misery.[1]
Misery[edit]
Following Misery, when Umaio again sought to resign his command, Colonel Andrei Shostokovitch instead transferred him to Beta Regiment's Command Lance as his regimental Executive Officer.[1]
Crossing[edit]
With the Beta Regiment's Command Lance, Umaio fought in the Battle of Crossing, almost saving the life of the fallen Colonel Shostokovitch. Umaio fought valiantly, but Shostokovitch had little hope, and Umaio was lucky to escape. He emerged from the battle with severe wounds and a hopelessly damaged 'Mech.[1]

John Umaio was known to pilot a BattleMaster BattleMech.[1]
