Wilhemina Liao was a Capellan Confederation noble.

History[edit]

Early Years[edit]

Wilhemina was born to the Capella branch of the Liao family. She was the granddaughter of Hurtong Liao and daughter of the infamously debauched and corrupt Jun Liao. She would later study sociology for six years at Sian University, becoming one of the foremost experts in Capellan political theory and serving a term in the House of Scions until 3147.[4]

Tutoring Danai[edit]

After the New Syrtis campaign, Danai Liao-Centrella was named Duchess of Castrovia and appointed as Chancellor Daoshen Liao-Centrella's heir. Upon Wilhemina's request, the Chancellor assigned her as Danai's tutor, and on 4 November 3148, Wilhemina officially met her cousin Danai. She announced her new title and began teaching Danai the duties of being a member of the Sheng nobility.[5]

A day later, Wilhemina took Danai to visit Sian's Great Dam as part of her teachings, before departing with her to Liao.[6]

When The Wall fell and ended the Fortress Republic era, Danai led multiple regiments to the Republic world of Hall, facing the defending battalion of the Fourteenth Principes Guards and establishing a nascent Capellan government. Wilhemina traveled with her to continue teaching her, supporting her and helping her greatly to incorporate Hall to the Confederation. She was instrumental in convincing Themba Olatunde, former Knight of the Republic, to assist with the planet's integration into the Confederation.[7][8]

Death and Legacy[edit]

On 6 June 3149, Wilhemina was traveling across Hall's capital city in a convoy along with Olatunde when a roadside bomb planted by RAF guerrilla forces detonated beneath their limousine, killing them both and destroying the vehicle so utterly that there were no trace of their bodies. Danai was devastated and furious over the loss of her cousin and mentor, and when the guerrillas resurfaced, she ignored a number of cautionary warnings and led a counterattack in a bid to avenge Wilhemina. In her blind anger, the guerilla force tricked Danai into falling for an ambush, though she managed to survive. Danai would still have her revenge, as the RAF soldier responsible for the bomb attack that took Wilhemina was killed in turn during the battle.[9]

Later, Danai tried to honor Wilhemina's death by using her influence to facilitate Hall's transition into the Confederation. When her father the Chancellor called Wilhemina an acceptable loss, a bitter and furious Danai demanded that he never mention her cousin again.[10]

Physical Description[edit]

Wilhhemina was described as being lithe but not tall, with almond-shaped eyes and shiny, straight black hair. Her clothes were edged with crimson and gold in accordance with court colors.[11]
