Welcome[edit]

Welcome, Fredericmora, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Fredericmora" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Notable pilots[edit]

Hey Fred, Just a heads up that I have removed your notable pilot insert from the Atlas article as Bryant Foster is likely not really notable.. But I have used your work as the basis for the character to have his own article. Bryant Foster. I am likely going to be doing this to a few of your inserts (I presume they are yours.. You have only signed in once but there have been a few IPs doing very simikar work to you).--Dmon (talk) 10:43, 30 October 2018 (EDT)

Hey Fred,
Now we have opened lines of communication and sorted out the referencing problem, I want to bring your attention back to the first message I ever left you. You added Marcus Poling to the Caesar article and Carl Yaeger to the Kit Fox article. These guys are not very notable, but we are a wiki, so what I would like to ask you to do is instead of adding characters like these to the 'Mech articles maybe consider creating a character article instead. It is ok for such articles to be really short (called stubs) and it will free up the "Notable pilots" section for really important people (The other two characters in the Kit Fox article are perfect examples of what we want in Phelan Wolf and Connor Rood).--Dmon (talk) 17:31, 4 April 2019 (EDT)

Bloodnamed Warriors[edit]

Hi Frederic. The information of the Bloodnamed warriors is already in the Wiki. See Category:Bloodnames, and then inside each bloodname--Pserratv (talk) 11:40, 14 February 2019 (EST)

References[edit]

Hi Frederic, you need to add the references to the text you add to the wiki, explaining from which book and page this does come.--Pserratv (talk) 11:40, 14 February 2019 (EST)

I see you are having trouble when trying to add references. Instructions can be found here: Help:References
Don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you need it. --Cache (talk) 14:00, 26 February 2019 (EST)

Breaking wiki rules[edit]

Fred, I have removed your edit from the Paul Moon article for the second time as it breaks the Policy:Moratorium of the wiki. Also two days ago you removed a {{cn}} tag from the Akira Brahe without actually adding a correct reference, both these acts can fall under Policy:Disruptive editing as such if this behavior continues it could result your removal from the site. Several members of the community have reached out to you and we would rather work with you than ban you but the ball is in your court.--Dmon (talk) 11:43, 28 February 2019 (EST)

Fred, you have again added information from Forever Faithful to the wiki before we are allowed too. As a result I have had to remove your edits to the Nicholas Kerensky article. Please stop.--Dmon (talk) 12:01, 6 March 2019 (EST)
Hey Fred, just a heads up that the moratorium on Forever Faithful is now up and story elements can now be added to the wiki without getting you into into trouble!--Dmon (talk) 05:07, 26 April 2019 (EDT)

Bringing articles up to standard[edit]

Hey Fred, Please could you take a look at Republic Remnant and Stone's Coalition and possibly try to bring them upto a standard that is closer to the rest of the wiki. They are completely unreferenced and not to be harsh but they really are poor and probably need a complete reformat and possibly a rewrite to be of any use to the wiki.

Your article on Ean is much better and I was able to find the source material and at least tweak it to broadly meet wiki standards, BUT it could still do with some more care.--Dmon (talk) 16:39, 14 March 2019 (EDT)

Need Citations[edit]

Hi Fred, i'm not sure if your able to response here, so i will try to explain. Each time you add information to a article, you add info. You need do a reference from where you came from. Example your Omega entry, where you said there was a functional Omega in Solaris. Where is this from? We need know the book, page, add it to a ref to it so we don't look like were making stuff up. I vaguely recall reading this, but i'm unsure where. Can you respond to this? you can do it by editing this by typing under where i'm typing with --Edit like normal, then do swish sign. next to the "1" on your English based keyboard. ---- Wrangler (talk) 11:43, 20 March 2019 (EDT) +1like this?

Thank you[edit]

Hey Fred, I just wanted to say thank you for starting to put references in your work. I was growing frustrated having to delete so much of your work, the whole process was wasting both your time and mine. I hope this improvement is the first step towards us being able to work together in a positive manner.--Dmon (talk) 18:45, 1 April 2019 (EDT)

Thanks, Dmon. The reality is I didn't put references because I don't know how to do it. Now I have learned it how to do, i feel stupid. It was so simple! Have a nice day! Fred.
A tip for you, Copy/Paste is your best friend when editing a wiki! I have been here for about 10 years now and virtually every reference tag I do is copied from another article and just tweaked so that the page number is correct.--Dmon (talk) 03:28, 3 April 2019 (EDT)

Hey, Dmon. Can I ask you help? I don't know how i can move or add an image on the Wiki. Can you tell me some advice? Thanks, Fred.

The best way to do it is Upload file page on the left sidebar of the wiki. Is this to do with what ever it was you where trying to upload to the Exterminator article? If so leave out the mention of Andrey in connection to that art unless you can prove it is him.--Dmon (talk) 15:00, 8 April 2019 (EDT)

Hi Dmon, thanks for the tips. And the Andrey Affair, for call him somehow, no, I haven't read nothing about it, but, frankly, who more can be the pilot? Think about it: the front page of the books usually show one of the key battles or incidents of the book. Andery's death was one of the biggest key points in the campaign. The Mech is a Exterminator. The only known Exterminator pilot in the Klondike campaign was Andery. Behind him you can see a very big skyscrapper, so it must be a very big city... and he died in the capital of Pentagon homeworlds, alone, in a urban fight, like the one shows in the front page. And if you look well the Mech, you can see it shows Clan Wolf i8nsignias, and Andery join the clan Wolf before the battle. Think what you wish, but I have no doubt it shows Andery Kerensky's death. Fred.

I am not saying it is not Andrey, You are probably right. However what I am saying is try to keep speculation to a minimum unless there is a need. I did some speculation on my Marie Rose article because of potentially conflicting information about when she died. Speculating on that exterminator does not really bring any new information to the article, a very cool image yes but but unless we can prove it is him, we are speculating for the sake of speculating rather than providing information. Does that make sense?--Dmon (talk) 19:12, 14 April 2019 (EDT)

Yes, it does. Sorry, is my nature. As i am a writer, I am a real perfectionist. I want to explain everything, every question, point every possibility... My fault. Thanks. F

Plagiarism Concern[edit]

Fred, I reworded your recent addition to The Filthy Lucre article as several sentences appeared to be copied directly from the source material. Please be careful to avoid this.--Cache (talk) 19:41, 5 April 2019 (EDT)

I'm sorry, Cache. I don't know i cannot copy directly the texts. Don't worry, i keep that in mind and don't make that mistake again. Fred.

Notable Pilots[edit]

Hi Fredericmora. I've seen you are adding a lot of information in the Notable Pilot section of several Mechs. That section should only be a short reference for the person, something like Star Colonel XYZ from Clan 123, and then link the pilot XYZ to its own article where you can out all the information on him/her.--Pserratv (talk) 16:04, 14 April 2019 (EDT)

Ok, thanks for the tip, I will take note of it, but when the only Notable pilots I found are very secondary personages, unworthy of his own page, maybe I write too much. Thanks. F
No character is unworthy of their own page Fred, we are a wiki that aims one day to have an article for every character in the BTU. So if you want to make character articles for missing characters, that will be a good thing. We even have a template to help. Character Article template--Dmon (talk) 09:54, 19 April 2019 (EDT)

Legacy Grasshopper[edit]

This may come across as a strange question but you are aware that there is no such thing "In universe" as the Legacy Grasshopper right?--Dmon (talk) 14:26, 23 April 2019 (EDT)

Sorry, but I don't understand that. The Legacy Grasshopper has even his own page, no? Fred.
Yes it does and to us, it is a significant thing but every time you make mention of it in an article it is done in such a way that it is considered as "the legacy grasshopper" in universe and if you read the whole book most of the characters do not view it as anything special, and only a couple of of them even consider the idea that it has such a long and interesting history.
Maybe the easiest way to explain it is imagine you bought a used car, at the time of buying the car you did not know it had once been owned by Tom Cruise. If you found out about Tom owning it, you would own "Tom Cruises car" but if you never found out who once owned it, it would just be "your car"
You write your articles as if characters know it is The Legacy Grasshopper.--Dmon (talk) 14:49, 23 April 2019 (EDT)

Ah, I understand. Ok, I didn't mention him again. In any case, I don't think I going to write more about him in any case. But for we (and with "we" I mean the readers and writers of this wikia) it's a very special Mech, no? It's a uncommon Mech, which represents all other of the millions of them in the BattleTech universe. How many of them are important for anybody other than his pilots? Let's see... The Aleksandr Kerensky, and later Theodore Kurita Orion, the Daishi from Natasha Kerensky... and that's all. And anybody of them had a so long history and military career. Fred.

Correct it is a very special mech to "us" the readers, In my opinion Legacy is such a cool concept. But that is where the Legacy Grasshopper is even more unique in BattleTech in that the Orion has value to Theodore because it once belonged to Aleksandr, the Daishi, or even the Warhammer are special because of Natasha. Both "us" and the characters understand and place value on the 'Mechs as something unique. In the real world they would be considered to be of historic signifucance, that is almost a plot twist that at the end of the book, somebody within the book realises that the Legacy is also of historic significance right at the end and places the bulkhead in a museum. If you think about it, in reading the book you have just explored the very human concepts of ownership and value without even knowing you where doing it.--Dmon (talk) 16:08, 23 April 2019 (EDT)
Yes, I understand, but that book... It lacks something. If I have writen it, i have put something more. I have preserved all the Mech head, or all full in the museum. But specially... Maybe you laugh, but sometimes I believed, or wanted to, the Mech was different from the others. I think like... if he was alive, or something like this. As if it was more than a animate object. As if, after so many hundreds of years of fighting and travel, after been piloted by so many people, should have evolved, or absorbed some of the essence of everyone. When the Mech returns, during the Jihad, to the same place where was created, i almost expect him to move by himself, advancing to the place where Lucia Cavaletta built him.
Yes, yes, I know what you will said, this will me against everything about the BattleMechs in the universe (despite the fact during the Jihad, the Word of Blake used Mechs or tanks robotics... more stupids than those we got today) but I almost think the Legacy Grasshopper was... more than a machine, like ATOM in the film "Real Steel".
In fact, in one of the novels I am writing, i will show a robot than becomes almost human.
And, in fact, almost all the main personages of my books are somehow more machine than humans. Fred.
I understand exactly what you mean and found myself feeling the same. As we follow the journey of the 'Mech, it becomes more than just a 'Mech, it becomes the Legacy. When I was reading the epilogue of the book I felt a genuine feeling of pride and even nationalism for a nation that exists only in the heads of us BattleTech fans.
That is the beauty of Sci-fi, you can explore and consider these things. I had so much fun watching Love, Death + Robots on Netflix just for that reason. Well worth tracking down if you have not seen it.--Dmon (talk) 16:45, 23 April 2019 (EDT)

Ok, thanks I take a look when I can. F

Outbound Light[edit]

I just rolled back your edit to the Outbound Light article because the information you added was already mentioned in the article, and was also revealed as misinformation in-universe (also mentioned in the article). Frabby (talk) 11:24, 7 May 2019 (EDT)

None notable pilots in notable pilots sections.[edit]

Hey Fred, I have mentioned it to you before but I want to ask you again, please stop putting none notable pilots in 'Mech articles, instead create a character article for the character instead. Think of it this way, If you look at the Ferrari F40 page on wikipedia you do not find a list of everybody who has ever owned one. Any person who is named in the article is in direct relation to the car, mostly designers and engineers. At no point in the entierity of the wikipedia page will you ever find mention of the personal hygiene of somebody who owns a certain model of car. I feel this should apply to our BattleMech articles.--Dmon (talk) 12:17, 23 June 2019 (EDT)

Tomahawk[edit]

Hey Fred, just want to ask about the update to the Tomahawk article. "The Tomahawk is almost identical at the Daishi-Dire Wolf, so it must be inspired in it." Does that mean stats or is there an actual in universe link?--Dmon (talk) 02:13, 12 July 2019 (EDT)

Sorry, I mean for his tonnage (100 tons) and for his outside appearance: compare them: the Tomahawk it's almost identical at the Daishi. Yes, maybe u don't should have put it, but the Thunderbolt-Summoner connection is also without proof, ¿no? What I've read only says they got the same configuration, so the Summoner must have been inspired in the Thunderbolt. Fred.
I had not noticed the Thunderbolt being listed in the Summoner article!! :-O Again unsupported information added by an unregistered user so I have deleted it. Good catch on that very old mistake!--Dmon (talk) 13:13, 22 July 2019 (EDT)

Hey Dmon, have you seen the Daishi page? Somebody had edited it, and written exactly what i put, about the Tomahawk.

Hey Fred, just had a look and no I had not noticed, I certainly think we need more people on clean-up duty around here, the wiki is just too big sometimes! I shall go clean it up.--Dmon (talk) 09:28, 22 October 2019 (EDT)

Tamar Rising[edit]

Hi, Fred! I see you are doing some stuff from Tamar Rising. I have a page in my userspace where I am temporarily parking info about Characters that I find in various books, and I got a lot of them out of Tamar if it is any help to you. Good catch on Jackie Darwin, I appear to have skipped over that page. Anyhow, it's in User:Talvin/Character Mining#Tamar_Rising and you are welcome to use that as a reference if it helps. I am slowly getting it better organized and slapping references on things. --Talvin (talk) 20:17, 18 June 2022 (EDT)

Thanks for the advice! I will make use of it, thanks.
Fred, the wording of your new stuff from Tamar Rising has quite a lot of speculation in it. --Dmon (talk) 21:51, 18 June 2022 (EDT)

Categories[edit]

Hiya, to place an article into a category, add the category name at the end of the article text. For example, regarding the Pack Mule I added [[Category:Individual Mule-class DropShips]]. Frabby (talk) 00:14, 6 July 2022 (EDT)

Discord[edit]

Hola, Fredericmora. Can you get on our Discord server? I have a neat wikilink trick I think you might appreciate.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 15:39, 14 July 2022 (EDT)

Hi Revanche. I would love to look it, but I don't know how to get inside Discord. Can you tell me how to get it? Thanks? Fred.
Sure can. On the left sidebar (on this very page), under the title of "BattleTechWiki" (in black), the sixth (6th) link is "Discord Community". Clicking on that will take you directly to the Sarna Discord. You will need to register first, before you get on. Go ahead and try that. Let me know (here) if you have any problems. Good luck! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:36, 14 July 2022 (EDT)
Thanks for your tips. I'm on Discord. How can I look that trick? Fred.
What is your name on Discord? Is it "Fredericmora"? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:10, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
Yes, that's it. I get confused when registered and put my name wrong.
Ok, go ahead over to the Discord now, go into the channel #general and say, "Hello Revanche". I'll find you that way. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:18, 15 July 2022 (EDT)
We were so close to texting in real time! And then you were gone. Did you see my responses to you?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 13:47, 15 July 2022 (EDT)

Image Policy[edit]

Hello. Sarna's image policy requires that all images must have their source listed. An image summary template is added automatically to the description box when you begin to upload an image. You are responsible for replacing "TODO" with the appropriate information. I am correcting the information for Garth Radick's Executioner but please be mindful of these requirements in the future. Thank you. --Cache (talk) 19:14, 3 August 2022 (EDT)

If you need any help understanding this quasi-legal requirement for Sarna to use these images, please let me know on Discord.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:28, 3 August 2022 (EDT)

Ok thanks. I will remember it. F

Why no infobox?[edit]

Hey Fred,

Is there a reason that the articles for Wolfsbane Battalion and Tarantulas Battalion do not use an infobox like all the other command articles do?--Dmon (talk) 17:48, 4 August 2022 (EDT)

Sorry, I didn't know I had to put it. Both are my first unit pages created by myself. I've already put them. Thanks for the tip.--User: Fredericmora
Thank you Fred!--Dmon (talk) 18:02, 4 August 2022 (EDT)

Question you wanted to ask[edit]

Hi Frederic. I saw your note asking me to contact you. Here I am. Which is your query?

Regards, --Pserratv (talk) 11:14, 11 October 2022 (EDT)

Hi Pseterrav, in fact I want to ask you several things. Can we talk by Discord? Fred.

Sorry Fred, I'm not using Discord. During my working week I have usually zero time, weekends depends, but usually I do not use it.. If this has to be a sort of living chat lets think on other options.--Pserratv (talk) 07:41, 17 October 2022 (EDT)

I understand. Tell me when we can talk and how, if you havea ny ideas. Fred.

I've created this e-mail address: pserratsarna@gmail.com. Mail me.--Pserratv (talk) 05:55, 25 October 2022 (EDT)

References for Shrapnel and anthologies[edit]

Hey Fred,

Just a tip that will save you some effort, when referencing a short story in Shrapnel or part of an anthology you do not need to bother with page numbers or even the issue/anthology name. Just reference the short story directly. The stories are often released in more than one product (Marauder/Fox Patrol), or even individually (ELH stories) prior to the anthology.--Dmon (talk) 03:52, 5 December 2022 (EST)

Ok thanks for the tip. F

Operation EXODUS reversal[edit]

Hey Fred, I reversed the new section you added to the Operation EXODUS article, list articles are something me and Frabby have worked hard to remove over the last few years. As such List of "SLDF Units absent of the Exodus" is not going to be acceptable. I agree that the subject of the article is something users might want but we need a better format.--Dmon (talk) 18:40, 7 December 2022 (EST)

I have just put a post in the community discord asking for suggestions on how we can handle the subject better.--Dmon (talk) 18:52, 7 December 2022 (EST)
Sorry if it isnt liked, but I think that was a neccessary one. If there is a lit of all the units whih went to the Exodus, why one which didn't go?
There is a list of the units that went because somebody tagged it into the end of a proper article about Operation EXODUS, there was no "Operation STAYING PUT" that I know of for us to write an article about!--Dmon (talk) 21:04, 7 December 2022 (EST)

Formatting[edit]

Hi Fredericmora, thanks for adding all those new character articles. I know it takes time to do! Just a heads up that I think you're using an old Character Article template. I often see there are missing lines in the info box and also the section headers are switched up. Here's a link to the current version: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Help:CreateCharacterArticle Thanks again! Csdavis715 (talk) 02:40, 12 December 2022 (EST)

Ok Thanks for the tip. Fredericmora.

Dropship type?[edit]

Hey Fred, just looking at your Savagery (DropShip) article and it says that the ship is both a Leopard and a Buccaneer-class dropship.--Dmon (talk) 13:05, 15 January 2023 (EST)

Thanks for pointing it to me. It is a Buccaneer. I must not have written it well. F

Perception of Victory[edit]

Hey Fred,

I think you have gotten your dates mixed up. Perception of Victory is under moratorium until 10 May not 10 April, so another month!--Dmon (talk) 00:15, 10 April 2023 (EDT)

Sorry! I must have read it bad. Don't worry, I will cut down all what I put.

Format[edit]

Hey Fred,

Just wanted to give you a poke about some minor isses with the stuff you have been doing recently. Over all your work is brilliant compared to the early days.

  1. In a characters affiliation section the House replaces all other affiliations. It is a rare person who holds their country or job higher in value than their family.
  2. So happy that you use citations now but if you are doing them from a novel please use the chapter rather than the page... all the ebooks have different page counts but the chapters stay the same!
  3. Double check the category tags, I have noticed a few that you have done have not worked because of typos or even punctuation.
  4. Last one for now, your Legacy sections in character articles are quite often not really needed because they talk about other people.
Cheers, --Dmon (talk) 19:56, 11 June 2023 (EDT)

Ok thanks for the tips, I will remember them. Fred.

Battle article titles[edit]

Hey Fred,

Just a heads up, noticed your Battle of Wayside V article has the wrong title, the title should be Battle of Wayside and the year of the battle in (brackets).--Dmon (talk) 22:05, 4 July 2023 (EDT)

Sorry, you're right. But I think it was appropiate to but that name, as the only one battle there was the Battle of the Straits, fought in a reduced part of the planet.
I understand, but we use that format so that all battle articles are the same. Remember some planets have dozens of battles, so it keeps everything easy to use.--Dmon (talk) 22:20, 4 July 2023 (EDT)

Ok thanks I will remember it. I must change the page's name? I don't know how to do it. F

Character Article Information[edit]

Hi Frederic! I just did a quick proofread of your Will (Umka) article (I moved it to create a disambig page, because it has a very common name) and I'm wondering if you are providing too much information that gives away the whole story. Maybe this is just a difference in writing style, but I'm not sure if the back-and-forth dialogue and actions between characters in the stories needs to be recounted in such detail, and leaving some of it out may save you time. --Csdavis715 (talk) 04:57, 14 July 2023 (EDT)

Ok thanks for the tip. As I'm a semiprofessional writer, I always want to fulfull all the details. I will remember that. Fred.
I can tell you're a writer! Several of us are, too. I think the information we write should depend on the page. If you're writing a plot summary for a story or book, then your style is fine. For character articles, perhaps we can limit more to who/what/when/where/why/how. This might seem boring at first but I think it makes it easier for people looking up information to see the facts clearly and quickly. I'm sure with your writing ability it will still end up being a good read! It's up to you. --Csdavis715 (talk) 22:39, 14 July 2023 (EDT)
I am with Csdavis715 on this, a plot summary is fine, but a character article, a very brief outline of the pertinent facts is all that is really needed. The same goes for the Legacy sections I keep removing, once a character is dead a characters story pretty much always ends at that moment.--Dmon (talk) 09:06, 16 July 2023 (EDT)

Specualation[edit]

Hey Fred,

I have removed your edit to the Evan Kell article because it is pure speculation. Assuming a character piloted a 'Mech because it lead the troops in combat is not in any circumstances enough information to add into an article other than possibly the notes section. Evan could of been commanding from the HQ, or he could of slipped in the shower that morning and already been dead. We can only publish things we can cite as facts!--Dmon (talk) 08:58, 16 July 2023 (EDT)

Ok I will remember it. F

Legacy[edit]

Hey Fred,

Removed the Legacy section from the Trent article.. It was a whole section that was not even about the character?????? Why is Richmond Howell mentioned in Trents article at all????? Did the two ever meet?--Dmon (talk) 17:54, 17 July 2023 (EDT)

Sorry, I thinked it was important to show the personage's death lasting consequences, what was did with his ashes and the fact it has descendants. I was wrong? F
That info belongs in the articles of those people, it was Paul Moon that was effected by Trents death so it would go in Pauls article not Trents. Same for Richmond, he was a decendant of Trent, but Trent never knew he would exist so it has it has no impact on him. Legacy sections are for the most part something we don't really need because in almost all instances the info is better placed in another article. And a lot of the info you are adding like the characters being upset at the death of another, are well normal human behaviour and as such probably do not need two entire paragraphs of detail on a wiki.
You have improved massively as an editor since you joined, but you are starting to run into some new problems in that you are now putting in far too much information in articles. I know you are a semiproffesional writer, so right now I want you to work on how concise you are. Imagine you have a word count and find ways to describe the situations and events in the books using less words, cut out some emotion and super specific detail in order to describe the wider scene.
Work towards getting your writing in english to a place you can submit that story to Shrapnel Wink.gif.--Dmon (talk) 19:03, 17 July 2023 (EDT)
Hi, Dmon, thanks for the tip and for your words. In fact, I've already written a story, made it translated to english, and sent it to Shrpanel... about half year ago. It still will need months to be examined. Have you written or sent one there? Fred.
PD: I've already written the Richmond Howell page. Only for curiosity: it is common to have a personnage taking two places into the same page? Because he takes two places in the page Howell: Bloodname. F
Hi Fred, I just want to let you know that we're generally moving away from having a Legacy section in character articles and we've recently removed it from the template. A little while ago I removed the section from the Charles Kincaid page because it really didn't have anything to do with him. I can understand how the info for a legacy might diverge a little, but that's also the reason why we're trying to avoid these sections, so that we keep the page completely focused on the characters they're supposed to be about. Quality control[edit]

Hey Fred,

I have had several people contact me over the last few weeks asking me to have a talk with you about your article quality. I understand that english is not your first language but you really need to start using a spell checker on what you put into articles. This is the main thing people complain about.

Also you need to do more to make your articles match the others on the wiki. Your new Freeminders article needs an infobox and one of the books in the bibliography section is a red link. I have actually been asked to ban you if you can't meet the basic standards, I don't really want to do something like that but you have been here for 6 years now, I can't really defend things like not checking your bibliography has the right names.--Dmon (talk) 20:19, 1 December 2023 (EST)

Building upon Dmon's remarks, your edits in the past few months have consistently shown bias, reflecting the prevalent authorial bias found in many BattleTech sources. It's crucial to uphold a neutral perspective in articles, concentrating on presenting facts without embellishments or subjective narratives. My revisions mainly address instances where irrelevant content was included in relation to the subject in question. --Deadfire (talk) 20:54, 1 December 2023 (EST)
Hi both, thanks for your remarks. I'm sorry for the trouble, and I thank you, Dmon, for havingn't banned me. This is very important to me. I will be more cautious with what I write. Fredmora.
Hi Fred, just look at your last reply—Dmon asked you to use a spell checker and you didn't even do it here in your apology. "Havingn't" isn't a word. What might help you improve your work is to create a checklist of steps. For example:
  1. Look up the template you need for your article and copy/paste it into your blank page. Many of them have been updated recently.
  2. After typing up any main body text, copy/paste it into a software like Grammarly, Microsoft Word (with spellcheck language on English), or ChatGPT. Here's an example of ChatGPT correcting spelling and grammar: ChatGPT
  3. Replace fixed text back into the wiki page, click "Show preview" and review before submitting or saving any changings. This helps so you can catch additional errors and broken links, etc.
  4. If you have any specific questions on how to do something, please ask. It's better if you can come on Discord and message us in real time, but using the Talk pages works as well.
My wife is Latina and I have proofread her papers that she translated into English. I know it is difficult and I admire your passion for BT to continue contributing to the wiki. Please work with us and help us to help you. Csdavis715 (talk) 04:59, 2 December 2023 (EST)

Hi boys, sorry for the trouble I've caused. Of course I would love to work with you. You said than you've talkeda bout me in Patreon? Please, tell me how I can access to those talks. I barely known Patreon, frankly. User: Fredericmora

Block for 3 days[edit]

Fred, I have blocked new edits coming from your account (and any IPs that you have used) for a period of 3 days.

The decision to take this action, involving Admins, Senior Editors, and various other editors, is a result of your repeated warnings, prolonged discussions on talk pages and Discord, multiple instances of edits being reverted, and the removal of clean-up tags without enhancing the page. This initial block is set for a duration of 3 days, and any subsequent blocks will be at the discretion of Sarna Admins. Please be aware that any ongoing incidents following this block will be closely monitored to prevent a recurrence of the issues that led to this action.

7 day block[edit]

Fred,

I am getting complaints about the poor quality of your editing again. Just looking at the Cassandra Mylonasa, you have a red link to Hesperus VII instead of Hesperus II, you have the date she met Vedet Brewer as 3021 making the characters in the novel about 160 years old. These mistakes are just in the first two lines of the article and are not things that are hard to translate. It is just bad editing.

I am giving you a 7 day ban as a last warning. After this, I am going to have to give you a permanent ban. Please just read over your work before moving onto the next article!--Dmon (talk) 19:10, 6 January 2024 (EST)

Hi Damon. Sorry, I just put the date as it appeared on the book "28 December 3021". I assumed it was wrong, a writer's mistake, so in other pages (as her mother and Vedet Brewer)'s, i put it as 3121, as It seemed thew only reasonable thing. I was to verify today the Hesperus thing. Sorry for the inconveniences, but it was necessary a 7 days ban? And how I can access to these Discord pages? F. User:Fredericmora.
Fred, if you scroll up on your Talk page, you'll see that someone else already explained to you how to access Discord. Also, I want to be on your side, but every time you post a message without checking your spelling or grammar, you are not helping yourself. Csdavis715 (talk) 03:18, 7 January 2024 (EST)
Hi CsDavis, thanks for the tip and your quick answer. But I checked the grammar and spelling, several times, before and after publishing each one. I should point than I'm not an english native reader-writer, and frankly, most of my english I learned it through video games and comic-books, and through sci-fi novels as the Battletech ones. I guess I've to cease writing here for a few months until I've learned a lot more. F.User:Fredericmora
You don't need to be a native English speaker to be a helpful contributor on the wiki. Conversationally you are absolutely fine, but the wiki requires careful proofreading before being published publicly. Please scroll up to "Quality Control" to see the steps I outlined on how you can check your spelling and grammar before you post anywhere on the wiki. Join Discord and chat with us there if you have any questions or need further assistance. Csdavis715 (talk) 03:37, 7 January 2024 (EST)

Decendents[edit]

Hey Fred,

I reversed your edit on the Hassan Ali Khaled about his decendant Zahara Khaled, as far as we know he never met her or even knew she existed so this information does not belong in the article about him at all. It is ok to mention in Zaharas article that she was his decendent, but generally character articles are about that character and only that character. If there is a lot of information about a family... We have a special type of article specifically for that.--Dmon (talk) 13:07, 29 March 2024 (EDT)

Hi Dmon, sorry, I made a mistake. I will remember it and avoid making the same mistake again. F.
