Hell's Highway is a short story by James Hauser that was published in the eleventh issue of Shrapnel and shows a race of the Mad Stampede by Clan Hell's Horses.

Plot summary[edit]
Rafeny, a Trueborn of Clan Hell's Horses, was on the Vestred Stables on Csesztreg, mounting a unicorn stallion, during a special assignment. He suffered a fall, but without being injured. The stablemaster invited him to eat with his family, and he accepted, being impressed of how welcoming was the man's family. Eleven years later, Rafeny was in the Lauren Bourjon, preparing himself to participate into a Mad Stampede into Denizli, a planet held by Clan Jade Falcon. With his crew, they debated what strategy to follow to the race. The Jade Falcon garrison commander, Clarence Pride, debated the Horses' raid with his officers, deciding to face them with light and fast 'Mechs. Meanwhile, the race began, with each pair of hovertanks deciding the route to take. The balaoverdes, a floating plat, hid the Horses' tanks from satellites, but a crew was slaughtered by grunes, small and aggresive animals.
