Scott Kress was the executive officer and later the commanding officer of the Sixth Defenders of Andurien during the Andurien Secession.[2]

Colonel Kress, serving under Lieutenant General Mildred Humphreys, was executive officer of the Sixth Defenders of Andurien in 3031. When Lieutenant General Humphreys was killed by Death Commando infiltrators on 9 March during the fighting for Grand Base, Kress took command of the demoralized Sixth Defenders. The Capellan Confederation's efforts to retake the planet's Earthwerks facility following Humphrey's death were initially beaten back but the use of mass infantry charges depleted Kress' ammunition stockpiles while simultaneously scarring his soldiers' mental states. Eventually Kress made the decision to shift his entire force to defend the Earthwerks industrial complex but the Andurien reinforcements were hit by a combined Death Commandos-Warrior House Fujita assault while they were redeploying and were unable to link up with the Earthwerks troops. Kress, recognizing that both his supply and tactical situations were no longer tenable, made the decision to retreat from Grand Base and the Sixth Defenders left the planet on 17 April 3031.[2]
Whether Kress could have held out long enough to achieve victory would be a matter of discussion for some time after the Andurien Secession but his decision to retreat preserved much of the Sixth Defenders at the cost of his personal reputation. Unbeknownst to either Kress or his superiors at the time, the rapid decline in his supply situation on Grand Base had been due to attacks on his supply convoys from the Federated Suns' Ministry of Information, Intelligence, and Operations. Rather than allow for the rise of a new Successor State, the Federated Suns instead chose to sabotage the Andurien conquest in order to maintain a weakened Capellan hold on the region.[2]
