“ | Nansa Altercan pledges allegiance to no one except herself. So what's a smuggler to do when she has a hot cargo, a damaged ship, Capellan troops on her tail, and no one to turn to? A story by Dayle Dermatis. | ” |
Plot summary[edit]
A smuggler dead set on working alone and never getting emotionally involved in what she is doing, Nansa Altercan has to bring her damaged craft, the Isolation, down at Old Port Town, a decreipt and largely deserted spaceport on Borgan's Rift with a cargo of illegal QwikStim while a war is raging on the ground. She is taken in by the port chief's family, and although they easily figure she is a smuggler they decide to help her out; Prue, their teenage daughter, positively adores Nansa.
The damage to Nansa's ship is worse than it seemed though, and she cannot repair it in time before enemy forces are advancing on Old Port Town. Despite herself, Nansa decides to provide her hosts with enough credit to evacuate their children off-planet and to mount the family 'Mech they have hidden but cannot pilot for a lack of training.
Notes[edit]
- Although the Isolation's class is never mentioned, the image going with the story clearly depicts a Small Craft of the Ares family.
- The type of BattleMech the Siriyah family kept hidden (and which Nansa ultimately decides to pilot) is not specified.
