Nicholas Borden was a former Republic of the Sphere and Northwind Highlander officer.

History[edit]

Nicholas Borden was a Northwind Highlander veteran, which at the Dark Age Era became the commander of Northwind Military Academy. But in secret, after the Steel Wolves had attacked Northwind in 3134, a secret regiment to defend the planet: the Grey Watch, and he was his commander. However, when the Steel Wolves attacked again, in 3135, he activated the Watch, but before he could order them to deploy, he died in his office. Officially, his death was accidental, after slipping and bashing his head against his desk. But in reality, he was murdered. That prevented the Watch to fight.[1]

After the Highlanders successfully defended Terra, Colonel Michael Griffin succeeded at the command of the Watch.[2]

During the Battle of Northwind (3150), Captain Declan Casey was tasked to search for Borden's killer, which it was suspected to be a traitor, but didn't fin it. Only after the battle the truth was uncovered: the killer wasn't a traitor at all, but Borden's XO, Colonel Joseph Halloran. By a note left in his room after he died in combat, it appears than he and Borden had quarrelled about how and when to use the Watch, and Halloran unwillingly killed his commander. He obviously blamed himself, and during the battle was very eager to fight, searching to die for what he had did.[3]
