Major Ingrid Amsel was a Lyran Commonwealth MechWarrior who is perhaps best known for her unsuccessful assassination attempt on Katherine Steiner-Davion on the world of Galax. Thanks to Amsel's service in the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces, she was able to secure a position for herself as the head of security for Federated-Boeing upon leaving the service. She had great loyalty to House Steiner and the Lyran Commonwealth and was placed as security chief partly due to this loyalty. Already wary of Katherine's duplicity and disapproving of her policies and manner of doing things, she felt that it was her duty and obligation to help the people of the Commonwealth by removing her from power. She spent a great deal of time contemplating the actions of ancient Terran general Erwin Rommel and his role in the attempted assassination of Hitler. Given her thoughts and her dislike of Katherine, it was relatively easy for Galen Cox, in the guise of Captain Erwin Bräuer, a member of her security lance, to push Amsel into making her attempt.[1]
On June 18th, 3062, after hearing word from Bräuer that Katherine would be interfering with Galax's food shipments in order to have the planet shift allegiances to her, Amsel made her move. As Katherine and her lance of 'Mech escorts made their way to the spaceport, Amsel and her security lance struck, cutting down the protective detail's Commando and Stinger in the initial assault. Amsel and her forces managed to destroy most of the escorts and both of the armored limousines at the convoy's center, but thanks to the quick thinking of Katherine's aide, Katherine was not in any of the vehicles, having abandoned them and fled into the woods surrounding the highway.[1]
As Amsel finally located Katherine and was about to deliver the killing blow, she was ambushed and knocked down by the protective detail's Hussar and Locust 'Mechs. The fall made her black out and she was captured by Katherine-loyal reinforcements who had arrived at the battlefield to mop up Amsel's security lance. She and her cohorts were executed by Loki officers and the incident was covered up to look like they had died while heroically defending a Federated-Boeing convoy from bandits.[1]
BattleMechs[edit]
Amsel piloted an Assassin 'Mech in her plot to assassinate Katherine Steiner-Davion. It was painted in standard Federated-Boeing white, with the company's blue logo on its chest.[1]
Titles and Positions[edit]
In 3062, Amsel was the head of Federated-Boeing's BattleMech security at their factory on Galax. Prior to accepting this position, she had served as a Kommandant in the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces.[1]
