Dislike[edit]
I have a problem with this project page, and with the proposed new Policy:Don't be a jerk. They are not only superflous in my eyes as they codify self-explanatory concepts that should need no explanation or highlighting; worse, they may ultimately hamper site administration. My best attempt at explaining my feelings about this are that they pretend to be rules when they really aren't. The problem is that creating the impression that site administration follows such rules will kinda-sorta create an onus for administrators to mind (know) and follow such rules, instead of applying their judgement. When I put on my admin hat (and I hate doing that and had to do it only a handful times) then I'm facing a person who didn't respond to my previous reasonable approaches. I'm done with explaining myself at that point. The last thing I would want when admining someone is them waving some obscure Policy or project page in my face to prove that they're in the right, claiming "it says here what I can't do and what I did is not covered here so I'm totally in the right" or something like that.
Hope that makes sense. Frabby (talk) 16:50, 1 September 2023 (EDT)
