Emil von Richter was the estranged younger brother of Elias von Richter who tried to usurp rule over House von Richter with the backing of the Free Worlds League.[1]

History[edit]

Emil von Richter was a noble of Penobscot who inherited a fortune, making him wealthy enough to live in luxury the rest of his life. His brother Elias had no heirs, making Emil next in line to become the Duke of Penobscot after his passing; however, Elias considered his brother vain, spoiled, narcissistic, and ill-suited to rule an entire planet, and took steps to ensure Emil didn't inherit anything from his estate.[1]

In 3027, Emil enlisted the help of the Free Worlds League—disguised as a large mercenary force—with the intention of launching a coup to claim what he believed was rightfully his. Elias, having heard rumors spreading around his royal court, hired a mercenary outfit to attack the forces assembling on Emil's land and eliminate some of the lieutenants in order to gather information about them, as Elias could not move against his brother without proof. In addition to Marik BattleMech colors, the gun camera footage and sensor readings clearly identified them as belonging to the FWL.[1]

Having been exposed, the League troops quickly mobilized and moved on Elias' estate, only to be repelled attempting to ford the Verona River by the House Richter Honor Guard and entire Penobscot Militia. Emil retreated to his villa in the Prospect Mountains while the FWL forces prepared their defenses along the only road that traveled through the area. Even with the terrain and artillery support, they were unable to withstand the ensuing siege; Emil surrendered and the League abandoned him, having taken too many casualties.[1]

Despite his treachery, Elias could not have his brother executed. Emil was remanded to house arrest in his villa for the rest of Elias' life, at which point Archon Katrina Steiner had permission to do with him as she wished. Upon Elias' death, all of his titles, wealth, land grants, and possessions were to be returned to the Commonwealth and donated to the people of Penobscot.[1]
