Voices of the Sphere: Cryogenics is a short story by Eric Salzman that was published in Shrapnel Issue 4 on 15 March 2021.

Plot summary

An overview of cryogenic technology is presented, noting its maturation in the 2600s, its use by Star League elites for medical emergencies and by "time traveler" cults to try to reach the distant future, and its relegation to use only by large governments in the Succession Wars era, as well as its use by Devlin Stone to see how his Republic of the Sphere turned out.

The overview is followed by commentary by representatives from various factions, some approving of the technology, others warning of its dangers.

Notes

The overview refers to a "camp holovid" called MechAssault VII: Cold War, suggesting that MechAssault, MechAssault 2, and MechAssault: Phantom War could also be in-universe holovids, accounting for their canon inconsistencies.
