Mayo's unit was sent to Kalidasa and in July 3070, the mercenary unit Gannon's Cannons struck the planet under orders to kill or capture the Precentor. To try and lure him out, the mercenaries started raiding Blakist supply dumps and ambushing their patrols until a few days later they located Mayo and most of his force. A pincer movement cornered the Word of Blake forces and allowed the Cannons to successfully take down Mayo's 'Mech. This set the remaining Word troops into a frenzy, striving to make Gannon's Cannons pay for their commander's death.
