History[edit]

The Tarantulas' special force was created in 3129. Along with the rest of the Dragoons, in 3139 moved to the Draconis Combine, participating in the conquest of several Draconis March Worlds.[1]

IlClan Era[edit]

As the unit was too far away to participate in the Battle of Terra, it moved to Savannah, where the surviving Dragoons gathered. By then, the new Dragoon's commander, Colonel Henry Kincaid was forced to deactivate all other regiments, leaving the Tarantulas and Wolfsbane Battalion the only active Dragoons' units.[2]

Soon after the Dragoons settled on Ilion, Kincaid sent the tarantulas to make two raids against Wolf Empire worlds: New Olympia, where they crushed a full Cluster of cadets from the Allison MechWarrior Institute, making almost all of them bondsmen. Later, they attacked Campbelton, to loot a Wolf weaponry factory. There, due to the Wolf leader, Jacinda (Clan Wolf)'s tactical cunning, they suffered a costly defeat, with fourteen Dragoons killed. The tarantulas' leader, Major Eric Gamble was wounded. Captain Haya Tetsuhara, now in charge, wanted to continue the attack, but the Dragoons' leader, Colonel Henry Kincaid ordered her to cease the attack and retreat off-world.[3]
