Planetary History
Third Succession War
In 3011, forces from the Free Worlds League, including elements of the Fusiliers of Oriente, attacked Scarborough. The defending forces, Wolf's Dragoons, used similar tactics that they had used on Wallacia just a few months before. However, the Marik forces were prepared for such actions this time. The Dragoons Delta Regiment and Epsilon Regiment struggled to secure a position along the Fielder River while the Gamma Regiment found itself exposed on the Samho Plain. Colonel Harold Jones, newly promoted commander of Epsilon Regiment, was able to link up with Delta Regiment set up a defensive position along the river. Meanwhile, Gamma's Wilhelmina Korsht put in a call for reinforcements, but was told that they were on their own.[25]
Gamma Regiment would drive off six Marik attacks over three days, but they took heavy damage, supplies were running low and the unit was also encircled. By now, Jaime Wolf was then able to direct aerospace fighters to assist in a break out attempt by Gamma. However, an unexpected fog would delay the air units ability to assist. That same fog though aided Gamma's escape plans by allowing their heavy units to approach the Marik lines far closer than they normally would be able. A fierce firefight erupted on the Samho Plain as the Free Worlds League forces moved to destroy Gamma. But, luck was with the Dragoons as the fog lifted and the Dragoon fighters were able to pin the Marik forces down and allow Gamma to escape though with heavy losses. The Dragoons would be forced to retreat off Scarborough, but the damage they inflicted on the enemy forces would cause major delays in the Free Worlds League offensive into Capellan space.[26]
Fourth Succession War
In late 3028 Capellan Confederation Armed Forces casualties of the Fourth Succession War were being treated in hospitals on Scarborough, as part of efforts by the Free Worlds League to support - however reluctantly - the Confederation as an ally under the terms of the Concord of Kapteyn. On the 2nd of December a hospital treating Capellan casualties was bombed; this provoked the remains of a Capellan tank regiment resting and undergoing refitting on the planet to attack the local police station, alleging that the attack was a plot launched by the Duchy of Andurien.[27]
In retaliation for the attack on the police station the Fourth Defenders of Andurien brutally suppressed the Capellan troops, and the leader of the Duchy, Dame Catherine Humphreys, declared war on the Capellan Confederation, deploying Andurien troops to attack or invade a number of Capellan systems.[27]
