Sabinillas, one of an immense number of unremarkable systems in the Federated Suns Outback, was settled only because of the vast mineral wealth located in the system. Gold is only one of the precious metals found here, and the other rare metals, minerals, and gems, as well as the more common metal ores, make Sabinillas a valuable resource center. These raw ores are shipped to other worlds for processing and to protect against pirates or raids, the local mining consortia have hired DropShips and AeroSpace Fighter units.[1]

These same mining consortia have restricted most of the educational opportunities to those that support the mining industry. Practical hands-on knowledge is passed down from one family member to another. Recreational opportunities are provided by the mining companies, and frequently involve alcohol or other illicit substances and services.[1]
