The Rangers' commander ordered the unit to stick to roads, but after several ambushes that took advantage of this carefulness, quickly reversed the decision. A portion of the Second Confederation Reserve Cavalry was quickly encircled after their inexperienced commander fell for a false retreat tactic, and were given a chance to surrender. The commander refused, stating he and his troops would fight to the death. The Rangers obliged them, televising the resulting defeat in detail.
