History
The SLS New Earth was a modified McKenna class battleship and was one of six McKennas in service with the SLDF navy that had been the subject of special modifications to allow them to service as specialized command ships,[1][2] each capable of acting as a mobile headquarters for either the First Lord or members of the High Command.[3]
In 2764 the New Earth was under the command of Admiral Illaria Setiawan[2] and was the command ship of the Second Fleet; the New Earth and the Second Fleet roamed independently within the borders of the Terran Hegemony, constantly searching for signs of intrusion by the various Great Houses.[3] The New Earth was attached to the Second Star Squadron, also known as the Cassini Squadron, which made the Cassini Squadron an overstrength squadron by comparison to other line squadrons. Cassini Squadron's focus at this point was patrolling the border between the Lone Star Province, the Draconis Combine and the Lyran Commonwealth.[4]
