Description

The MuckRaker, a Star League-era design from General Motors, stands out among oft-Dig Lord-esque MiningMechs for its unusual structure and purpose. The 'Mech is a slow, highly stable platform for a large truck bed - a 'walking dump-truck' that can reach areas dump trucks cannot. It spread across the Inner Sphere and Periphery, finding use for a wide range of projects including and beyond mining.[2]

Armed MuckRakers came to be common. Such MuckRaker MODs are ad-hoc field refits, rather than factory designs or refit kits. While each one is unique, a somewhat standard common design became apparent over time, the Zhanzheng de Guang (in their Terrorist Handbook) among those spreading design instructions.[2][3]

Weapons and Equipment

The most common MuckRaker MOD uses the truck bed to carry a bank of missiles, usually an MRM 20. The backhoe arm is cut up, and an autocannon (usually a rotary AC/5) is welded on. With heavy industrial armor, the result is a lumbering, somewhat well-protected mobile missile platform.[2]

Variants

  • GMMM-2
The original MuckRaker MiningMech, introduced in 2737,[4] uses a backhoe, while its bay is capable of carrying and dumping 22 tons of cargo. BV (2.0) = 709[2][5]

Design Quirks

The GMMM-2M MuckRaker MOD is subject to the following Design Quirks:[2]
