Peace in the Chaos March?

Ever since the beginning of the FedCom Civil War, the Chaos March has been a hotbed of activity. Capellan forces especially have been on the offensive. The Styk Commonality has had more than its share of blood shed fighting with the aggressive forces of Sun-Tzu Liao. But it looks like peace may be at hand for Styk. After the Capellans’ humiliating defeat to [MERCENARY UNIT] and Lindon’s Battalion at the coastal city of Thurbid, the Capellan military seems willing to put the conflict at an end. Although the Styk Commonality will probably have to pay dearly for an end to the hostilities, peace at any price may be worth it for those war-torn worlds. For his valiant efforts, [MERCENARY COMMANDER] will be representing the [SPONSORING UNIT] as an honor guard for the peace talks.

Styk – Peace Talks

BRIEFING

Stand guard over the peace talks between the various faction leaders. With a view toward ending hostilities on Styk, the Capellans have agreed to attend the talks. Their list of demands will likely be untenable, but the Commonality can’t sustain further engagements.

Castle: Looks like we impressed someone at the top, sir. Standing guard with the Commonality security force will give us some high profile media coverage. Should be a cakewalk.

DURING MISSION

Guard Chief: The Capellan envoy is approaching. All ‘Mechs are locked in stationary/weapons safe mode. Don’t want our honored guests feeling unwelcome.

Spectre: Acknowledged, Chief. Stationary lock, weapons safe.

ComStar Broadcasting Corporation (CBC): This is CBC for the first ever peace talks between the Styk Commonality and Capellan leaders. The Capellan delegates are pulling up even now.

Spectre: What the? Spectre One going weapons hot! Chief! You there?

CBC: Blake save us! There’s been an explosion! It’s chaos! Chaos!

Castle: Delegate security link is off-line, sir. I’m patching through to the military liaison.

Spectre: Hostile ‘Mechs closing on the convention center. Moving to engage.

CBC: Did one of those ‘Mechs fire? It’s a warzone down here! A warzone!

Castle: Commander, the Styk leaders are evacuating, but the local airbase failed to get scheduled air cover in place.

Spectre: Sabotage?

Castle: Affirmative. Not sure why the flights weren’t launched this morning, but the base just got hit by a fuel-air bomb that made your blast look like a firecracker.

Anderson: Spectre One, this is Executive Security Officer Anderson. The Commonality delegates are being mounted in Karnov choppers for transport to the in-city militia base. We need you to buy us time and cover their exodus.

Spectre: Roger that. Let’s get these guys out of here.

CBC: Reports are coming in that fighting has broken out across the city. Tanks and BattleMechs are blasting away in a fiery conflagration.

Anderson: Delegates are airborne. Clear us a path out of here, Commander. Watch out for civilians.

Spectre: Missile tracks at Beta. Engaging.

Spectre: Beta clear. Moving to Gamma.

Spectre: More light armor.

Spectre: Pair of ‘Mechs moving in from Gamma. I’ll draw their fire.

Spectre: Convoy, I read a full lance of ‘Mechs at Gamma. Suggest you seek alternate route.

[If Hammer Lance survived]

Hammer: No need for that, Spectre One. Hammer Lance is moving to engage.

Spectre: Hammer Lance?

Hammer: We caught word on the news that you were in a world of hurt.

Anderson: Thanks for the support. Exodus continuing through Gamma.

Hammer: We’re here for Spectre, but we’re happy to help.

[End Branching Text]

Castle: Commander, Delta is your exit point.

Spectre: Clear at Delta. Returning to base.

[If Hammer Lance survived]

Spectre: Thanks for the cover, Hammer.

Hammer: Any time, compadre.

[End Branching Text]

AFTERMATH

Castle: All in all, it was probably to be expected. We knew the Capellans were up to something, but bombing a cease-fire summit! The Commonality heads have scattered, but several important peace delegates are still trapped in the city’s firebase. They are calling for whatever aid we can offer.
