MechAssault: Phantom War/The Gauntlet
The Gauntlet
Styles: Val, that was unreal! How did you know the HPG would fire like that?
Brice: There are so many theories about how it could work, but they just don’t make sense. The only realistic possibility would be a focused, immense, electromagnetic pulse. I couldn’t really know without doing it, so I went with the odds.
Faulkner: A big payoff. And all this, just to find out how useless the damn thing is as a weapon…
Objective: Eliminate all enemy forces en route to the Drake.
Styles: So, is this mission over?
Faulkner: Not yet. This mission requires the removal of Dante Fierus.
Brice: That’s what I wanted to hear. I’d like to know what kind of game he’s playing. I feel like his pawn, and I’m not liking it…
Styles: You got a lot of ‘Mechs up ahead.
Faulkner: MechWarrior, we have hostile ‘Mechs inbound to our location. We need your support.
Faulkner: Vallen, we are going to get you some answers. The Sentinel tells me a JumpShip left Tsinan and ended travel at Niangol.
Brice: Dante…
Faulkner: Vernon, prepare to rendezvous with the Sentinel. We are headed for Qarahta.
Brice: Qarahta? Dante should be on Niangol.
Faulkner: I had the Sentinel scan all planets near Niangol. We found the ACM positioned on Qarahta. Just close enough for a quick invasion on Niangol, and a great place to stockpile weapons.
Brice: Dante was setting us up for a squeeze play…
Faulkner: There’s evidence that members of Clan Hell’s Horses are also stationed on Qarahta.
Brice: Clan warriors! Militias are one thing, but Hauptmann, you can’t send me in against Clan members. This is suicide! We’ve done enough. Let’s end this now.
Faulkner: Company, we will end this on Niangol. Board the Drake. Our first stop is Qarahta. Dante will never see this coming.
Sentinel: Hauptmann, ready your command for immediate jump to Qarahta.
Faulkner: Command, clear for jump.
Sentinel: All clear for departure to Qarahta. Good luck, Hauptmann.
