HD-438297 is a system near to HD-367482, in the coreward Periphery well beyond the edge of the Draconis Combine.[1]

System Description

HD-438297 is a system with at least one inhabitable planet, presented as an earth-like desert oasis with light vegetation and high rocky formations.[1]

System History

At some point, the Star League Defense Force build a massive base on the planet, likely a Castle Brian. It was constructed almost completely underground, with the pathway to the main entrance being a series of defensive terraces that ascend to a pair of reinforced blast doors. There were obvious signs that a major battle took place on those terraces, and a derelict Monolith-class JumpShip with missing solar sail fins (or one of similar unknown design) was adrift in orbit.[1]

At some point, perhaps after the creation of Intelser in 2980, the Clan red star logo was painted on the blast doors.[1]

In 2986 or shortly earlier, Nikolai Mason stopped in HD-438297 prior to his infiltration of Kurita space.[1]

Sometime between the Helm Memory Core discovery in 3028 and the Clan Invasion of 3049, Ryana Campbell reconned the inside of the base, which at this point had been abandoned for over two hundred years. She noted the sheer size of the facility along with 'Mechs she had never seen before. After locating a control room to turn on main power, she proceeded deeper into the structure where she found a Memory Core, which she downloaded and simultaneously erased. Meanwhile, a lance led by Jake Mason held off a staunch assault by ComStar—who also wanted to acquire the data—out on the terraces long enough for them to make it off-world, and stewardship of the Memory Core was handed over to Interstellar Expeditions.[1]

Canonicity

Featured only in the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries video game, the HD-438297 system is considered apocryphal.
