Geography
Galtor III is an agricultural world on the border between the Federated Suns and the Draconis Combine.
Galtor has three main continents. Eire, the largest continent, has a spine of vast mountains and a broad fertile plain cut by numerous rivers. The Wagnall Plain, as it is known, is an immensely large area, well-watered and eminently suitable for cultivation. The other two continents consist mostly of desert or mountains, except for coastal flood plains and tropical jungles along the equator. Galtor's capital of New Derry is situated on Eire.
History
Captured by troops of House Kurita in the First Succession War in May of 2787[3],during the first wave of a surprise attack. The defending Syrtis Hussars were trapped on the planet, and put up a resistance as long as 2792[3]. The inhabitants of Galtor III were suffering under the strict draconian rule and hoped for liberation by House Davion. However, they had to wait until 3022 when the Federated Suns reconquered the world in a bloody campaign in which more than one third of the population lost their lives.
In 3025 Galtor III was the stage of one of the largest battles of the Third Succession War. The AFFS lured the DCMS into a trap and almost lost the world to them. Only the disunity of the invading forces and finally arriving Davion reinforcements prevented a Kurita victory. Despite this the system was lost to the Combine in the course of the Fourth Succession War.
The world wasn't affected by the Jihad, which allowed the population to rebound from the losses sustained in the early 31st century.[2]
