Armitage arrives and confirms the man to be Jonas, the wanted Lyran accountant, whose tongue was cut out by a previous employer. He also tells Valas that this was a rough test that had to be done in order to see if Valas was a suitable partner for Armitage, and pays him his share of the bounty minus some damage to the warehouse. On his way out, Armitage is stunned by Valas who had rigged the pistol's power packs to disable the PA/L suit and the man wearing it. Valas borrows his rifle and tells Armitage that he shouldn't search for him; he'd get in touch with Armitage, who should consider him a partner but never a lackey or apprentice.
