Description
Following the secession of the Lyran Alliance in 3057, Archon Katherine Steiner-Davion ordered the production of a new battle armor design. Thanks to its lack of success and the fact that the Suns half of the Federated Commonwealth never liked it, the Lyran development team has many Sloth battlesuits to work with. The Fenrir is, in many ways, the successor to that failed design. The Fenrir is named after the demonic wolf from Germanic myth.[10][11]
Like the Sloth, the Fenrir is a quadruped design, so it cannot make anti-'Mech attacks, nor can it ride mechanized on an OmniMech. Though the Fenrir is larger, it carries the same amount of armor, which is capable of stopping a Medium Laser. It is, however, faster, able to reach speeds up to 43 km/h. The Fenrir is at its best when it can use this speed to hit and run before enemies target it.[10][11]
Weapons and Equipment
The Fenrir mounts a configurable turret mount, which is similar to the configurable weapon mount found on humanoid battle armor designs. It carries a heavier arsenal than its progenitor, which can be configured in a number of different ways. For use against conventional infantry, the Fenrir can carry either three Machine Guns or two Small Pulse Lasers. Against armored targets, three Small Lasers or a Medium Pulse Laser provides withering firepower. A more recent addition to this list is the ER Medium Laser that can hurt opponents from a distance. It can also mount an SRM-4 with three reloads for close support. Finally, an indirect fire configuration mounts a Heavy Mortar, with a Machine Gun for defense.[10]
Variants
- Fenrir "Longshot"
- Developed in 3076, this version uses an experimental Battle Armor C3 System to coordinate targeting information. The main armament has been replaced with a pair of Clan-spec LRM-5 launchers equipped with enough ammo to fire two salvos each. It also adds an extra 100kg of armor. BV(2.0)= 120[12]
