Description[edit]
Unlike more sophisticated autonomous robotic drones, a remote Drone CCS requires human control of the units which it commands. This remote control system has a limited range on planetary surfaces of about 80km (unless supplemented by satellites), while aerospace-based control systems have a range of 3,000,000km. A vehicle or aerospace unit mounting the Carrier Control System may control any number of drone units of various types (e.g. a DropShip may control a mix of Drone ASF and Drone Battlemechs) and may mount as many CCS components as their construction rules allow. Each controlled unit must mount a Remote Drone Operating System
If a drone exceeds the control range, or if hostile ECM interferes with the signal, the controlled drone becomes immobile and inactive.
The tonnage of each CCS component accounts for the crew stations needed to control the drone units (1 crew per drone) as well as additional communication equipment necessary for connecting to the controlled drones.
