Overview
Der erste Kontakt ('First contact') was a series of four BattleTech scenarios by Frank Lenzer, published in issue #33 (September/October 1996) of the FanPro house magazine Wunderwelten accompanied by fiction written by Hartwig Nieder-Gassel.
The scenarios were designed to go with the newly released (in Germany) second edition of CityTech.
Story
Clan Jade Falcon attacked Black Earth in the May of 3050. The planet was defended by the 17th Skye Rangers and 1st Grave Walkers, who used dishonorable tricks to offset the Clans' technological advantage.
Scenario 1 - Still ruht der See
A Timber Wolf and a Dire Wolf are ambushed by a Skye Rangers lance consisting of a BattleMaster, Marauder, Warhammer, and Rifleman who have been hiding in some lakes. The Clan MechWarriors from the 305th Assault Cluster will adhere to zellbrigen (Clan honor rules level 1) no matter how dishonorable the actions of the ambush lance.
Scenario 2 - Häuserkampf
Another Skye Rangers lance, this one consisting of a Griffin, a Phoenix Hawk, a Stinger and a Wasp supported by a Condor, a Vedette, a Hetzer and a Demolisher plus some infantry attempt to negate the superior range of their enemies by attacking them in an urban area. The Clan force consists of a Timber Wolf, a Nova (Black Hawk), and a Kit Fox, again from the 305th. They will adhere to honor rules level 2.
Scenario 3 - Luftkampf
A Skye Rangers Slayer and Stingray face off against a Clan Visigoth and Sulla. If one or even both Skye Rangers aerospace fighters survive, they may provide much-needed fighter support for their side in scenario 4.
Scenario 4 - Die Entscheidung
After the defenders on Black Earth were overrun in a matter of just two days, Major Dudulski of the 1st Grave Walkers defiantly issued a half-serious offer to fight a duel... and was astonished when the enemy commander, one Galaxy Commander Samantha Clees, actually accepted it. As a result, the remaining operable 'Mechs from the 17th Skye Rangers and 1st Grave Walkers (two Javelins, two Centurions, a Victor, a BattleMaster and a Warhammer), augmented by some infantry and mines, face off against Delta Nova 1 of Delta Trinary of the 5th Battle (Clan Jade Falcon), who will begin the fight under honor rules level 3.
Canonicity
Published exclusively in an apocryphal magazine, Der erste Kontakt must be considered apocryphal as well.
Wunderwelten was the house magazine of FanPro, who were the German BattleTech licensee at the time of publication and later even held the complete BattleTech license. While Wunderwelten does not technically meet the current criteria for canon, its BattleTech-related content does therefore still have a claim to being an official publication under a valid license.
