History

Early Life

David McCarthy was born on Kathil. He had four sisters and at least two brothers.[1][2] His family had a large farm covering hundreds of acres in Vorhaven.[1][3]

Task Force Serpent

He was a kommandant in command of the Second Battalion, First Kathil Uhlans that survived the fighting on Huntress during that unit's actions in Task Force Serpent. For his actions in the rearguard on 28 March 3060, he was awarded the Star League Medal of Valor, though the losses his command took in that engagement continued to haunt him.[4][5]

Kathil Capellan March Militia

He chose not to join the Second Star League forces like his fellow Uhlans, however since Marshal of the Armies Nondi Steiner had disbanded the Uhlans he was officially retired and discharged. Still desiring to serve, he had his commission reinstated for a posting with the Kathil Capellan March Militia. The only open billet was a company commander, hauptmann, commanding Second Company in Second Battalion so he was forced to accept a demotion. He arrived on Kathil in early October 3062.[6]

On 2 December, his family farm was targeted for destruction by Leftenant Xander Barajas and his lance. Thanks to the quick thinking of Jessie, Pauline McCarthy's five year-old daughter, both she and her seven year-old brother Billy were able to escape to the storm cellar the rest of the McCarthy family was in, though Barajas did attempt to cut the children down with machine gun and PPC fire.[3]

McCarthy took over command of his battalion with a field promotion to Major after the Kathil CMM XO, Leftenant Colonel Damien Zibler, was killed in the initial engagement between the Capellan March Militia and the Eighth FedCom RCT.[7]

BattleMech

David McCarthy piloted a DVS-2 Devastator during Task Force Serpent and beyond.[8][5]
