Technical Readouts (also known and abbreviated as "TROs") are game publications which are printed (or electronically published) as in-universe references and technical guides. They are written in a largely in-universe perspective (albeit mixed with specific gameplay stats) and describe a wide range of BattleMechs, vehicles, and other assorted weapons and equipment in use in the Battletech universe. Initially they were titled based a specific in-universe game year. For example, Technical Readout: 3039 covers weapons and equipment in use in 3039. Titles using named eras have also been introduced, for example Technical Readout: Jihad covers the Jihad Era.

Recognition Guides (also known and abbreviated as "RecGuides") are functionally identical to TROs, but they are presented as in-universe intelligence reports written by a Clan author. Additionally they are being published in a serial digital PDF series and include record sheets.
