Description[edit]
Built to operate in an counterinsurgency role, the Bloodhound is designed to engage enemy guerilla units. The Bloodhound is built on an Earthwerks PXH IV endo steel chassis that carries a lightweight Hermes 315 XL engine capable of pushing the Bloodhound up to speeds of 118.8 km/h. In addition to this speed, the Bloodhound is well armored for its mission, with nine and a half tons of Durallex Light armor with CASE to protect the 'Mech against complete destruction in the event of an ammunition explosion. The Bloodhound also carries a Beagle active probe which is capable of finding hidden enemy units. [1]
Weapons and Equipment[edit]
Intended for combating guerrilla units, the Bloodhound is armed with three Diverse Optics ER medium lasers and a Guided Technologies 2nd Gen Streak SRM-6 launcher as its primary weapons. The Bloodhound carries a Diverse Optics ER small laser as a secondary weapon. To dissipate the heat from the Bloodhound's weapons the 'Mech has 14 double heat sinks. For its intended mission and in an infantry support role the Bloodhound is a superb 'Mech, but when facing other 'Mechs the Bloodhound is woefully underarmed.[1]
Variants[edit]
- B2-HND
- The B2 variant of the Bloodhound, introduced in 3067,[5] enhances the 'Mech's firepower and capabilities by removing two of its double heat sinks and adding a Guardian ECM suite and a second ER small laser. BV (1.0) = 1,206[3], BV (2.0) = 1,363[6][5]
- B3-HND
- The Bloodhound-B3, developed in 3081[7], is apparently intended to counter large numbers of infantry and battle armor. All the standard weapons of the Bloodhound have been removed, replaced with a pair of ER flamers and a medium pulse laser in each arm. The right arm is also equipped with a fluid gun that has two tons of ammo in the right torso, and a single B-Pod is also mounted in the center torso. To make room for this equipment the Bloodhound-B3 removes the Beagle active probe, drops down to eleven double heat sinks, and loses half a ton of armor. BV (2.0) = 1,006[8][7]
Design Quirks[edit]
The Bloodhound has the following Design Quirks:[9]
Notes[edit]
- In German products, the unit's proper name was altered to Jagdhund, which translates to Hunting Dog. The model code was accordingly changed to J1-HND.
