Description
The genesis of the Arrow IV Assault Vehicle or AAV was the battle to liberate Canopus IV during the Jihad, when Naomi Centrella and her forces saw the effectiveness of the Arrow IV-equipped Demolishers deployed by the Red Lancers when fighting against the Blakist Thirty-Fourth Militia Division.[1]
Following the demonstration of what properly-deployed Arrow IV units could do, the Magistracy Armed Forces took note, and Majesty Metals and Manufacturing took advantage of this by developing and releasing the AAV. Although the AAV carried just the one missile system, the weight savings in comparison to the Demolisher allowed the AAV to carry more armor - thirteen and a half tons of heavy ferro-fibrous armor in total - and defensive weapons, a trait that was used to great effect against those used to fighting against the Demolisher. The AAV was also designed with a specially reinforced chassis and towhook, allowing each vehicle to tow trailers laden with ammunition; to further protect each AAV, the ammunition racks were designed to be modular, allowing for quick reloads, while CASE protected the vehicle from explosions in the turret.[1]
Following the introduction of the AAV to service in 3089 the demand for the vehicles quickly outstripped Majesty Metals' ability to produce them on Canopus IV; as a consequence, Majesty Metals licensed the Andurien branch of Brooks Incorporated to produce the AAV, and the vehicles swiftly proliferated widely; while commonly found throughout the Free Worlds League and the Taurian Concordat, AAVs also appeared as far away from the Magistracy as the Lyran Commonwealth border with Clan Jade Falcon space.[1]
Weapons and Equipment
The primary weapon system on the AAV was a Luxor I Arrow IV artillery system mounted in the AAV's larger turret; mounted in the second turret were a pair of Blankenburg medium variable-speed pulse lasers, while an LFN Lindblad Shotgun anti-missile system was mounted on each of the right and left sides of the AAV. The AAV carried four tons of ammunition for the Arrow IV system and two tons of AMS ammunition.[1]
Variants
As at 3145 there were no variants of the AAV in production.[1]
