An armored chassis is a type of structure that is the frame of a Support Vehicle. All standard combat vehicles come with an armored chassis by default, as they are intended for combat. The chassis modifications by default weigh half more than a "standard" chassis (before any other chassis modifications. An armored bicycle for example, should be about as massive as a standard chassis).
The reason to use an armored chassis would be to mount a form of effective armor with a BAR above what is normally rated for the vehicle. The armor type that can be mounted on the chassis depends on the Technology Rating of the vehicle as a whole. For example, F grade support vehicles can mount BAR 9 armor on a vehicle without an armored chassis, while an A grade support vehicle can only mount BAR 4 sheet metal. [1]
