===Early Career===
Shostokovitch was reputed to be a large man with a hearty laugh, and a quick if not always appreciated sense of humor, paired with intense loyalty to those near him. He was also a highly intelligent and intuitive officer, whose tactical sense allowed him to locate the weak spots of his enemies.

As commander of Beta regiment he was an extremely popular leader, having rose through the ranks of Beta Regiment's MechWarriors, taking over from its initial commander [[Jeremy Ellman]] on his retirement in [[3016]]. Shostokovitch sometimes posed as [[Jaime Wolf]] for visitors, delighting in embarrassing those caught unawares by his gruff, authoritarian affectations.<ref name=WDsp59/>

Andrei Shostokovitch participated in the [[Battle of Misery (3028)|Battle of Misery]], where his assault 'Mech was badly damaged. After this battle, his injured Lancemate [[Captain]] [[Noah Grimm]] convinced him to take over his smaller 'Mech, so that he could continue fighting even as Grimm retired from service.<ref name=WDSB/>

===Crossing===
