Description

The Ambassador is an ultralight BattleMech notable for being completely unarmed; its purpose was exclusively limited to diplomatic representation. In this role, the Ambassador offered the reputation associated with a BattleMech without offensive potential. It is exceedingly fast, possibly the fastest 'Mech designed in its time, and able to outrun possible threats. It is also adequately armored for its purpose, considering its ultralight weight class. Two jump jets provide a token jump capacity.

The Star League loaned out Ambassadors for free to every dignitary who wanted one, and the concept was a success. Before long, diplomatic negotiations were conducted from Ambassadors, with the 'Mech's condition a matter of pride for its pilot, and it was often demanded that the other side pilot one as well to demonstrate respect and good faith.

At its height, some three hundred Ambassadors were used throughout the Inner Sphere. Few of these survived beyond the Second Succession War. As of 3025 ComStar is rumored to have restarted production on Terra, at a rate of two per month.

Variants

None known. Many surviving Ambassadors are thought to have been stripped for parts, especially their double heat sinks.

Notable pilots

  • Michael Cameron - The First Lord of the Star League liked to travel to council sessions in his Ambassador, the Rising Star of Terra.

Canonicity

The Ambassador was only ever described in StarDrive. Since this magazine is not currently counted among the canonical sources for BattleTech, the 'Mech itself is not currently considered canonical either.
