Draconis Combine
Parent Command Shin Legion

The Second Shin Legion was a BattleMech regiment of Capellan origin that served with the Draconis Combine from the early 3030s until it was destroyed fighting Clan Smoke Jaguar.

History[edit]

Exile and Service with Draconis Combine[edit]

The Shin Legions were possibly formed at some point during or after the Fourth Succession War, as they were absent from ComStar's version of the CCAF's rosters when the Third Succession War ended.[1] If any of the Shin Legions existed during the Fourth War, their presence or actions were not noteworthy enough to merit inclusion in the NAIS' two volumes on that conflict.[2][3]

Fearing Romano Liao's paranoia and ruthless purges, the Shin Legion's three regiments decided to flee the Capellan Confederation in the aftermath of the Fourth Succession War. Having eliminated the Maskirovka spies in its own ranks, the Second was able to make a clean getaway and avoid the fate of its sister regiment, the Third, which was exposed and destroyed.[4]

Rendezvousing with the First Shin Legion outside Capellan space, the two regiments decided to offer their services to the Draconis Combine. The Combine accepted the two regiments into its service, although they were treated with as much suspicion as mercenaries.[4][5]

Ronin War[edit]

During the Ronin War the Kanrei sent the Second Shin Legion to Kandis, which was under attack by mercenary units in the employ of the Duke of Tamar. There the Second Shin Legion reinforced the capital city. Meriadoc's Marauders refused to surrender, and the 1st and Second Shin Legion destroyed them. After that, the Shin Legions relocated to Skandia until the Draconis Combine recalled them.[6]

War of 3039[edit]

Battle of Sadalbari (3039)

Clan Invasion and Decommissioning[edit]

During the Clan Invasion the Second was virtually destroyed defending a Combine world against Clan Smoke Jaguar. The surviving members were merged with the First Shin Legion in or after 3052. As they had been essentially a foreign unit, nobody expected the regiment to be resurrected by the DCMS.[4][7]

Notes[edit]

Despite apparently being part of the Capellan military around the time of the Fourth Succession War, the Shin Legions are not listed on the CCAF's rosters in the original House Liao sourcebook, nor are they mentioned in the Fourth Succession War atlases.

The date and location of the Second Shin Legion's final battle against Clan Smoke Jaguar has not been identified in any source. As the First Legion is noted as learning of their destruction after its own engagement with Clan Nova Cat in February 3052, the battle likely took place during Operation REVIVAL's fifth wave.
