Unit Brief

The Outreach Protectorate Militia is one of the many militias raised by Word of Blake to defend the Word of Blake Protectorate. The unit was deployed in Outreach.

History

When Tara Lucas was brought back to Outreach, she was paraded through the ruins of Harlech by elements of the Blakist' Outreach Protectorate Militia Division. Lucas was displayed in a cage on top of a BattleMech Recovery Vehicle as part of a convoy in an effort to flush out any surviving Dragoon resistance forces.[1][2] On 27 October, the remnants of the Dragoons' Elemental Strike Cluster, led by Major Elson Novacat, attacked. The Dragoons were well aware that the convoy was a trap, but despite being down to two Stars of Elementals, they were highly motivated, as Novacat believed Lucas' abilities would be vital to the resistance.[3][4][5][6] The Blakists sprung their trap, as dozens of Purifiers emerged from the accompanying Bulldog trucks. These were joined by a Panther 'Mech, which had not been part of the convoy.[7][8] Despite the odds against them, the Dragoons successfully rescued Major Lucas, completely destroying the Militia forces who were holding her.[9][10][11][12] Lucas, meanwhile, was suffering from extreme post-traumatic stress syndrome despite her rescue, and at times was nearly catatonic.[13][14] Novacat spent weeks restoring Lucas' confidence, and Lucas emerged with a burning desire for vengeance.[15]

The Militia did not survive the war, but it is not known at which exact date it was destroyed.[citation needed]

Composition History

Protectorate Militia Divisions were equipped with enough DropShip capacity for transportation, but not JumpShips.[16]

Notes

As Outreach as a planet did fight a lot the WoB invasion, it was mostly filled with offworlders.[citation needed]

Rules

As long as a Protectorate Militia force is fighting on its homeworld and is acting as the scenario's Defender, the Protectorate Militia force receives the Force the Initiative and Off-Map Movement special abilities. If deployed as the Attacker in a scenario, the Protectorate Militia force loses its Force the Initiative ability, but retains its Off-Map Movement capability.

If deployed on a world other than its homeworld (such as an Epsilon Eridani force being deployed on Genoa), the Protectorate Militia force not only loses all of its special abilities, but also suffers a –2 Initiative modifier.

Although Blakist-based, Protectorate Militia forces may use standard Inner Sphere force arrangements (Lances, Companies, and Battalions) rather than Word of Blake force arrangements.[17]
