The Circinus Federation is a minor Periphery power located west of the Lyran Alliance/Free Worlds League border.

Founding

The Federation's origins lie in a mercenary unit known as the Black Warriors, who fled Free Worlds League space in 2770 because of alleged contract violation for the then-mostly unexplored Periphery. They found and settled on the world of Circinus, and joined the pirate forces already operating from the planet. Over the next few years, the combined forces began to raid the Inner Sphere, which was preoccupied with the Star League crises.

The Federation can be said to truly begin when a group of Lyran colonists fleeing the strife settled on the planet Circinus in 2785. They immediately struck an alliance with the pirates, and formed what would become the Circinus Federation. Interestingly, the Lyran settlers are believed to have never found out the previous "settlers'" origins as pirates. This has led to the unusual situation in which the government officially denies the existence of so-called "covert operations".

Recent History

Between the years of 2990 and 3020, the combined farmer/pirate alliance settled eight other worlds around the planet of Circinus. The president, H.R. McIntyre, signed a series of reconciliation treaties with the governments of both the Lyran Alliance and the Free Worlds League. The President conducted these treaties with some skill, as he managed to play off of the mutual suspicion between the two powers to help avoid their taking over of his Federation (although House Marik had occupied the capital once before during the Second Succession War).
