Description
Clan Hell's Horses began development on their next-generation main battle tank, the Eurus, as far back as the early 3100s. The vehicle was originally devised to pair with the then-new TankWarrior program. However, difficulties integrating ferro-lamellor armor into OmniVehicle designs stalled the project out, leaving it to languish with few resources and little hope for completion. The Horses' acquisition of several Clan Wolf worlds in the mid-thirty-second century provided a fresh influx of materiel, and with that extra backing Horse scientists were able to break through the problem.
Debuting in 3146, the Eurus quickly became the centerpiece of several victories. The tank's outstanding performance has been cited as a notable contributing factor in the slow redemption of the TankWarriors' reputation. Such is the Horses' pleasure with the Eurus that the details of its design are carefully guarded from other Clans, to the point that one warrior was reprimanded for "giving the Ghost Bears a free demonstration of the Eurus' capabilities" during a race on the Rasalhague Dominion world of Karston. As of writing, no command outside of the Clan Hell's Horses Touman has been recorded fielding the Eurus.[2]
Weapons and Equipment
The Eurus mounts a 2-ton turret capable of mounting up to 20 tons of weapons and equipment. As this accounts for all but 3 tons of the platform's available pod space, most configurations install all of the vehicle's weapons in the turret. The tank mounts eleven and a half tons of ferro-lamellor armor, the first OmniVehicle to do so.
The Eurus' Primary configuration is a generalist main battle tank, carrying a gauss rifle with a coaxially mounted large pulse laser. Against infantry, the turret also houses an array of three machine guns. An anti-missile system provides an extra layer of protection against missile threats. The tank carries enough ammunition to fire all of its weapons continuously for two minutes, after which point the gauss rifle's two-ton ammo bin runs dry, with another two minutes of firing offered by the AMS, and another minute and a half after that for the machine guns.
Alternate Configurations
- Alternate Configuration A
- A short-range, high-impact variant of the Eurus, the A configuration places a class-20 ultra autocannon in the turret along with five ER small lasers, all connected to a targeting computer. In order to help the tank close with its prey, a supercharger is installed, allowing the Eurus to reach speeds of up to 104 km/h in short bursts. BV (2.0) = 1,986[3]
- Alternate Configuration B
- The B configuration installs a class-40 hyper assault gauss rifle in the turret with five tons of ammunition. A pair of ER medium lasers occupy the remaining tonnage. BV (2.0) = 2,147[3]
- Alternate Configuration C
- 24 advanced tactical missile launch tubes are installed in the C configuration, backed up by an improved heavy medium laser and a pair of AP gauss rifles. BV (2.0) = 1,856[3]
- Alternate Configuration D
- The Eurus' D configuration mounts an ER PPC in the turret, supplemented by 18 Streak SRM launch tubes. Five extra heat sinks are required to handle the extra heat generation. BV (2.0) = 1,770[3]
