Description
The Lobo was originally conceived as an inexpensive companion to the Timber Wolf. Khan Vladimir Ward's Clan Wolf was never fond of the Linebacker, the brain child of Khans Natasha Kerensky and Phelan Ward, so Khan Ward directed his scientists to design something smaller. Despite that, Ward was not happy with his options until Clan Coyote developed the Advanced Tactical Missile launcher, which Ward quickly secured the technology and had it incorporated into the Lobo. With that inclusion, the 'Mech ceased to be cheap, however, as the inclusion of endo steel and an extralight engine was necessary to free up space for the desired launchers. Khan Ward now views the Lobo as a testbed for an eventual OmniMech to justify the costs required to produce the design. Able to out-pace the Timber Wolf, the Lobo is more in line with Clan Wolf's shift to faster, hard-hitting 'Mechs. [2]
Weapons and Equipment
The Lobo is built on a Type-A endo steel chassis, which carries a General Systems 240 XL that allows the 'Mech to move up to 97 km/h. Protection is provided by seven tons of Type-1 ferro-fibrous armor and a Shield-3 anti-missile system.
At long range, the Lobo makes use of its Volt-7 ER large laser. As it closes, it can makes use of paired CC ATM-6s, paired General Systems heavy medium lasers and a General Systems heavy small laser. The meager 10 double heat sinks allotted to the design cannot hope to keep it cool, so MechWarriors have resorted to running the heat up to the red, then disengaging to cool off.[2]
Variants
- Lobo 2
- Introduced in 3072[1], this version of the Lobo replaces the standard weaponry with a large pulse laser, two ER medium lasers, two AP Gauss rifles, and two plasma cannons. This makes it an effective anti-infantry and anti-battle armor 'Mech. It also adds one extra double heat sink to the configuration, however that's hardly enough to cover the generated heat. BV(2.0)=1,869[4]
- Lobo 3
- Another Jihad-era anti-infantry configuration produced in 3077[1], the Lobo 3 has a Machine Gun Array in each arm, comprising of four machine guns each. Additional anti-infantry firepower comes from the pair of AP Gauss rifles, one in each side torso. For more heavily armored targets, the Lobo 3 carries a pair of Streak SRM-4s, an ER PPC, and a medium pulse laser. An extra double heat sink is also added. BV(2.0)=1,824[5]
Design Quirks
The Lobo is subject to the following Design Quirks:[6]
