A virus with no given name, this disease started as a biological agent released by the Word of Blake during their nuclear assault on Alarion in 3069, which ultimately resulted in the depopulation of that world.[1][2][3][4]
Overview
This virus was an engineered bioagent or cocktail of biological agents, identified by Lyran doctors as being descended from the Terran hanta virus, which is normally transmitted from rodents to humans. An analysis of its RNA indicated it has been created on a world by the Word of Blake with life forms unknown to Lyran Alliance researchers at the time, potentially one of the Blakists' Five Hidden Worlds.
The engineered form of the virus transferred not only from rodents to human, but also between humans, with many other animals also acting as carriers. Initial symptoms are fever and muscle aches, followed by coughing and shortness of breath. Death occurs within two to three weeks of infection.[1][2]
The illness was initially misidentified by Lyran authorities as an outbreak of Alarion Flu, but was soon discovered to be resistant to the usual antivirals, and far more deadly than that disease.[1][2]
