Description
Achernar BattleMechs' successful Dig King and Dig Lord MiningMechs inspired an unusual wave of copies, helped along by widespread access to the Dig King's specs. The Ground Pounder is among those copies. A cheap low-tech Dig Lord copycat, the Ground Pounder came to be particularly prominent.[2]
As with many IndustrialMechs, combat-modified variants of the Ground Pounder exist. Dig Lord copycats found widespread use in combat, the Ground Pounder no exception.[2]
Weapons and Equipment
The factory-standard DVM-2M MOD is among the many MiningMech mods using machine guns and shoulder-mounted missiles. DeValt Industries's creation bears two SRM-4 packs and two machine guns aided by advanced fire control, while keeping the original pile driver. Two heat sinks are included. Heavy industrial armor provides some protection. Stability is enhanced by tracks, remaining from the original design.[2]
Variants
Design Quirks
The DVM-2M Ground Pounder MOD is subject to the following Design Quirk:[2]
Notable Pilots
Related 'Mechs
- Dig Lord: The 'Mech the Ground Pounder was based on.[2]
- Dig King: The 'Mech the Ground Pounder's MOD was likely inspired by.[2]
- Burrower: A similar Dig Lord imitation, with a similar MOD variant. Both MODs are suspected to be based on prior Dig King MODs.[2]
Notes
The Ground Pounder was originally introduced by WizKids in the MechWarrior: Dark Age Collectable Miniatures Game, where it was one of the designs only known by the generic name MiningMech. The DVM-2M specifically represents the MiningMech MOD-B from MWDA. The publication of Technical Readout: Irregulars gave it BattleTech stats and its new name.
