However, instead of correcting her General rank to the SIMC equivalent of Colonel or Senior Colonel it revised her rank to the AFFC's Leftenant General, perhaps indicating liaison officers gain honorific ranks equivalent to their partner state's.

Simone Devon was the St. Ives Compact's liaison officer to the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth.

History

Devon was a petite fair skinned woman with a photographic memory.[3] She was a Colonel in command of the First St. Ives Lancers in 3025[4], and defected the Capellan Confederation to the newly formed St. Ives Compact where she served as the liaison to the AFFC.[5][6][2]

During the Capellan-St. Ives War she held several high level meetings with both SIMC and AFFC command staffs, most notably traveling to New Avalon on 18 March 3062 and securing Archon-Princess Katherine Steiner-Davion's agreement to honor First Prince Hanse Davion's pledge to keep three AFFC regiments in the Compact.[7] Unknown at the time was a concurrent agreement with Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao that while the AFFC troops would remain in the Compact, they would take no steps to oppose his conquest.[8]

On 2 May Devon was enroute back to St. Ives aboard her DropShip, Carthage, when the Capellan JumpShip You dú Xin-Zàng attempted to utilize a pirate point between St. Ives and her moon, Cochrane. Devon went aboard the broken vessel and her DropShip Death Blossom to render aid only to encounter Petyr Andreyvich strapped into the cockpit of his Lucifer aerospace fighter. A Thugee cultist, his craft was armed with UrbStryc-A nerve gas intended for the Tian-tan palace as part of Kali Liao's Black May attacks. Driven mad by the effects of the misjump, Andreyvich launched the missiles as Devon and the rest of the rescue crew attempted to extract him from the cockpit, killing all involved.[9]

Quotes

Nothing can shake the Commonwealth's commitment to the St. Ives Compact. Not even the dissolution of the Commonwealth itself.
  — General Simone Devon, 3058[10]

Notes

There are a number of continuity errors with this character, many seeming to stem from confusion over if she was a liaison to the AFFC, or a liaison from the AFFC. Her two bookending publications, House Liao (The Capellan Confederation) and Field Manual: Capellan Confederation, clarifies she was always a Confederation or Compact Officer. Beginning with 20 Year Update she was listed as a General and the "AFFC Liaison" under the St. Ives Compact. a rank that exist neither the SIMC nor AFFC. In several novels she is explicitly described as an AFFC officer who had pro-Victor leanings who would even disobey order from then-Archon-Princess Katherine Steiner-Davion to abandon the Compact. Most of this was corrected with the most recent publication (and thus the definitive word when it comes to canon) Field Manual: Capellan Confederation which clarified she was a SIMC officer. However, instead of correcting her General rank to the SIMC equivalent of Colonel or Senior Colonel it revised her rank to the AFFC's Leftenant General, perhaps indicating liaison officers gain honorific ranks equivalent to their partner state's.
