FedCom Civil War Era
The Fifth Alliance Air Wing is well-established as the premier bandit-hunting unit within the Alliance Military Corps. Two out of the three regiments within the 5th were constantly deployed away from the Wing's base world of Ferris, usually stationed aboard the OAS Acceptance, one of two Vengeance-class DropShips operated by the AMC. The Acceptance and its regiments make constant sweeps through Periphery systems outside the Alliance, hunting for bandit camps. In recent years the number of camps has been dropping, believed in part to be due to the situation on Dante, but enough were still being found that the 5th continues to conduct its' hunts as at 3064.[1]
In 3067 the Fifth was assigned to work with the Titan-class DropShip Long Road. With this powerful unit, the Fifth extended its sweeps around the Outworlds Alliance, but found no pirate bases. This led the Fifth's command staff to speculate that pirates may be operating within the Alliance's borders.[2] At this time they also split off the ground forces they had been working with, and were the garrison to Ferris.[3]
The Jihad
The 5th Alliance Air Wing was placed in the invidious position of having to turn its guns on its own people while stationed on Raldamax, when a local rebellion erupted over the siege of Dante,[4] where Clan Snow Raven and the Alliance Military Corps were engaged in joint operations against Word of Blake-backed Inferno terrorists.[5]

Tactics
The officers of the 5th Alliance Air Wing and their attached ground formations are given more leeway than usual when conducting operations, a reflection of the fact that the various sub-units of the 5th are constantly on the move, making communication between elements more difficult than in many other formations.[1]
