- The command is never actually referred to as the "Planetary Defense Force" in the novel Decision at Thunder Rift, the novel describes the "Royal Guard" and the "Militia" (usually the Trell Militia per usual Sarna wiki naming conventions) as suffering from interservice rivalry, thus the designation of PDF has been chosen to represent the over all governmental military force in order avoid confusion with the "Militia" as featured in the novel.
