The Maxilla was a Union-class DropShip that served the Fortune Charlie mercenary contingent of Task Force Styx within Operation CERBERUS,[1] which retook New Syrtis for the Federated Suns in late 3147.
During the initial assault on 4 December, Maxilla carried elements of the Tally's Talons mercenary battalion. While preparing to drop BattleMechs from orbit, Maxilla was hit by enemy fire. The exact nature or extent of the damage suffered by the Maxilla was not detailed, though the damage was apparently heavy enough to warrant dropping at least part of its 'Mech complement early. The botched drop in turn put the 'Mechs in grave danger.[2] It was observed that the attacking force descended on spheroid and ovoid DropShips while no aerodyne DropShips were mentioned.
Given that Fortune Charlie was composed of several individual mercenary commands, it is unclear if the Maxilla was part of Tally's Talons (as opposed to a transport assigned to them for just this mission).
