Description
Considered to be well armored and fairly well armed, the Lucifer is known for its tight maneuvering and prolonged weapons fire capabilities. However, numerous issues with cooling, targeting, and communications systems have plagued the design, and the ejection system was removed when the frame was refitted for high-G maneuvers. However, the craft is respected for its anti-DropShip mission and House Steiner has invested heavily in production. When supported by other fighters to fend off enemy fighters, the Lucifer is a very effective machine.
Weapons and Equipment
The LCF-R15 is laser-heavy, with two Large Lasers, four Small Lasers, and one Medium Laser, all provided by the Maxell corporation. This variant also comes equipped with the Holly Long-Range Missile 20-Rack, providing it with that far off capability to soften up a DropShip's armor, so that the four Small Lasers can do increased damage on the close-up pass.
Variants
- LCF-R16
- The 3052 LCF-R16 upgrades the armor with Ferro-Aluminum, and improves the craft's weapons: The four small lasers are replaced by 2 Streak SRM-2s, the rear-firing medium laser is upgraded to a Medium Pulse Laser, and the large lasers are upgraded to ER Large Lasers. The new Lucifer also includes Double Heat Sinks and Artemis IV FCS. BV (1.0) = 1,424[6] (1,418)[7], BV (2.0) = 1,443
- LCF-R16KR
- The LCF-R16KR Lucifer II is a major upgrade over the original LCF-R15. This variant is protected with Ferro-Aluminum armor, and saves mass with a 260 XL Engine and removal of the LRM-20. Compared with the LCF-R15, the craft adds two SRM-6s, upgrades the large lasers to ER Large Lasers, upgrades the small lasers in each wing to a single Medium Pulse Laser, and the rear-facing medium laser to a Medium Pulse Laser, but drops some armor[12][13]. BV (1.0) = 1,301[14] (1,303)[15], BV (2.0) = 1,399
- LCR-3 Lucifer III
- This version of the Lucifer is roughly based on the experimental LCF-X30. This version mounts the same Extended LRM-10 systems in each wing and Medium X-Pulse Laser for aft coverage, but the main weapon system is the nose-mounted Bombast Laser. Twenty-one tons of Ferro-Aluminum armor has been installed, and an XL Engine provides a great deal of thrust, the communications system was changed to an O/P AIR 900. BV (2.0) = 2,356[16][17]
- Lucifer III C
- After Clan Jade Falcon captured Shipil, they changed the design of the Lucifer III. The fuselage is protected by Ferro-Lamellor armor. The weaponry was removed and replaced by a pair of ATM-9 launchers, Medium Pulse Laser, and an ER PPC with PPC Capacitor.[18]
Custom Variants
- LCF-X30
- Developed by the Shipil Company on Skye, the LCF-X30 is a test-bed for Experimental Technology. Replacing the standard engine with an XL version and swapping the standard armor for Ferro-Aluminum was the starting point. Removing the standard weapon load for the Lucifer was the next step. In place of the standard weapons, the LCF-X30 carries a Binary Laser Cannon in the nose, an Extended LRM-10 in each wing for long range hitting power, while a Medium X-Pulse Laser covers the rear arc. Only two are known to be undergoing testing. BV (1.0) = ?? BV (2.0) = 1842[19]
Design Quirks
The LCR-3 Lucifer III variant is subject to the following Design Quirks:[16]
Notes
In German products the unit's proper name was perfectly translated to Luzifer. The model code was accordingly changed to LZF-R15.
