System Description
The Atria system is located near the Ko and Sabik systems[2][3] and consists of a class K5IV primary orbited by ten worlds, at least one of which is habitable.[1]
System History
The Atria system was settled during the First Exodus from Terra.[4]
Atria V
Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard Atria V - more commonly referred to simply as Atria - is the fifth of ten planets in the Atria system and has five moons named Astoria, Delacruz, Istanbul, Viennes and Zarpedos.[1]
Planetary History
Atria was described by the surveyors who found it as a paradise. This designation rapidly changed when the early colonists discovered that the world was in fact coming out of an ice age. The melting ice resulted in a world almost completely covered in water, with only a few island chains located at the north and south poles left as inhabitable by humans, and the atmosphere became stifling. High heat and humidity make the inhabitants miserable, and only visitors from arctic worlds found the planet invigorating for more than short stays.[1]
The largest problem faced by the inhabitants of Atria stems from the fact that the world's entire ecosystem is completely incompatible with human physiology. Though it has many native animals, particularly sea life, none of it can be consumed by humans. Instead Atria had to import its food from neighboring systems.[1]
Atria was one of the worlds that was abandoned by the Terran Alliance following the Outer Reaches Rebellion and the Demarcation Declaration of 2242,[4] but by the end of the Reunification War Atria had become one of the worlds within the Lone Star Province of the Terran Hegemony.[5]
With little to recommend it, no government used Atria for anything more than the occasional transfer point for troops on the move to other more important worlds. This allowed it to survive the Succession Wars and other brutal conflicts, but there was nothing exciting or useful about the world. Atria remained a typical backwater world, like thousands of others found throughout the Inner Sphere; those traveling to Atrai in the Dark Age were doing so for vacations, as Atria was known for being a tropical getaway and the planetary capital of Atria Prime was the center of a flourishing hospitality industry.[1]
During the Fourth Succession War the Lyran Commonwealth conquered Atria as a part of the final wave of attacks of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG.[6][7] The Third Regiment of the Twelfth Star Guards captured Atria with ease, as the planet lacked any significant 'Mech forces with which to oppose them.[6]
