Assigned to the Caph Theater, from 3 to 4 on the Inner Sphere Clock, the ComGuard 3rd Armys performance against Clan Jade Falcon during the Battle of Tukayyid was only enhanced by its participation in Operations Bulldog and Serpent, leading it to adopt the nickname The Emerald Falconeers.

History
With troops stationed in both the Chaos March and sections of the Federated Suns which saw the most action in the FedCom Civil War, the Third Army was stretched to breaking point and beyond by the Civil War and associated events. Acting on Gavin Dow's orders, many Divisions of the Third fell to pro-Victor troops; not surprisingly, Victor Davion's reinstatement as Precentor Martial proved unpopular with many in the Army. Additionally the refusal of both Davion and Dow to assign more troops to the Third Army in light of Word of Blake aggression in the Chaos March resulted in general decline in the Army's loyalty.
After the beginning of the Jihad the ComGuard Armies were stretched too thin. To counteract this, the 7th-12th Armies were disbanded and used to reinforce the 1st-6th Armies. This gave each of the newly-reinforced Armies a full six Divisions. The 3rd Army was one of the formations affected, receiving new reinforcements.[1]
Along with the Second Army, the Third was attached to a top secret mission led by Devlin Stone, disappearing from public view in mid 3078, [2] reappearing only after the liberation of Terra was concluded in 3079. [3] It was later learned the 2nd and 3rd Armies had undertaken a successful if very costly assault against the Blakist held Luyten 68-28 system, the remains of both shattered armies being used to bolster the 6th Army in preparation for Operation SCOUR and were effectively disbanded. [4]
Officers
As of 3050, the Third Army was under the command of Precentor Marty Jby.[5]
As of 3055 to 3067, the Third was under the command of Precentor Alexander Durbin, promoted to the post after Tukayyid. While an excellent field command, Durbin is a poor bureaucrat and relies heavily upon his XO to manage the Army's day to day operations.[6]
