Kaer Pathogen started as a biological agent, first developed in the Age of War and modified for use in the First Succession War, which was released via a dirty bomb by a Free Worlds League agent in the underground town of Kaer on Hall under orders by Captain-General Kenyon Marik in 2789.

The pathogen initially killed four-fifths of Kaer’s population, but its true and intended legacy was physical and neurological birth defects in the children of those with the disease. In Kaer, where the population remained cut off from the wider world, this resulted in increasingly defective individuals over the generations. It was unknown if, after that period, the disease remained airborne or if it could only be passed on to children of sufferers.[1]
