Olivetti Weaponry, also known as Olivetti Weapons, is a BattleMech and Combat Vehicle manufacturer on the world of Sudeten. Previously located deep in the Lyran Commonwealth, the factory was captured during the Clan Invasion by Clan Jade Falcon, who refitted the facility as their main production site in the Inner Sphere.
Overview
Considered the wonder child of the century, Olivetti Weaponry was founded by Michael Olivetti, who resigned as a factory foreman at Defiance Industries in 2990. After discovering the ruins of an old Star League facility on Sudeten, by 3005 Olivetti miraculously got a working 'Mech factory up and running. By 3025, Olivetti had more than tripled in size, producing the WHM-6R Warhammer, TDR-5S Thunderbolt, Hunter tank and J. Edgar Hovercraft.[1]
Like many existing military manufacturers, Olivetti benefited from the discovery of the Helm Memory Core and by 3050 had almost completed retooling to produce the advanced-tech WHM-7S Warhammer and TDR-9S Thunderbolt models. While deep in Lyran space and thought safe, the Clan Invasion showed otherwise and despite the efforts of even the vaunted Gray Death Legion, Sudeten and the Olivetti factory fell to the forces of Clan Jade Falcon, who chose the planet as their Inner Sphere capital.
Extensively refitting the factory in the decade since its capture, the first Clan-tech BattleMech built by the Jade Falcons in the Inner Sphere, the second-line Spirit, rolled off the production line in 3063. After first successful producing second-line designs, the upgraded Olivetti facility began to manufacture both new and old frontline OmniMechs as well as replacement equipment, greatly reducing the Clans reliance upon matériel from the Homeworlds.
The first true OmniMech to be produced after the upgrade of the Olivette Weaponry plant was the Fire Falcon; the Jade Falcons produced a small production run as a testbed design, issuing a star of the new 'Mechs to the Second Falcon Jaegers for field testing. Within a year, Olivetti was also producing the Black Lanner and Turkina OmniMechs.[2]
As of 3081 the Olivette Weaponry facility was still intact, but production had dropped sharply because of a lack of JumpShips and ongoing rebellions, both of which reduced the flow of resources into the factory.[3] However, due fighting during the Jihad, six of the BattleMech designs had ceased production and since been replaced with others.[4]
Leadership
The company's CEO in 3025 was Duke Michael Olivetti.[1]
